Cosy comfortable accommodation in the former dairy of Great House. Tucked away close to the centre of the tiny market town of Talgarth with its working mill, fêted café and stunning walks. 6m away, relax in the bookshops and cafés of Hay-on-Wye. Visitors to the cottage have a small private area to the rear, which catches the afternoon and evening sun. Ideal for eating al fresco, there is a barbecue, table and chairs. Enjoy the honeysuckle and flower boxes as you read and unwind. As a number of our returning guests have allergies, I am sorry to say we cannot allow pets to visit. Although your hosts are literally next door, the thick stone walls offer complete privacy. Should you need information or advice we are on hand with maps for walking, local knowledge and a warm welcome. Talgarth snuggles in the foothills of the Black Mountains with instant access to local walking trails, or a short drive to Brecon to access the Brecon Beacons. 50 yds from the town centre a recently refurbished mill as seen on TV. Take a tour then taste the delights of Nicola's cakes, freshly baked bread and tasty lunches made from locally sourced ingredients in the Baker's Table Cafe. Nicola in collaboration with Gobaith's Pantry, is now offering an 'At home' fine dining experience - seasonal contemporary and classic dishes designed to be finished and savoured in the comfort of your own home. Please contact Anna for further details before you arrive. 5 miles Llangorse Lake offers water sports, and a riding and rope centre where people of all ages can find fun things to do. 5 miles In the opposite direction is Hay on Wye, famous for books and its annual Festival. Hay is a pretty border town offering numerous cafes and restaurants, a speciality ice-cream parlour and individual quirky shops. Getting around is easiest by car as much of the stunning scenery is best seen from higher vantage points. Bicycles can be hired in Brecon, and canoes in Hay on Wye. Local transport is available but check the timetables before you set out as services are often infrequent and some only run on certain days of the week. A small tourist steam train operates in the Brecon Beacons for train enthusiasts. The nearest main train station is Abergavenny which is 18 miles away. Taxis are available from outside the station.
