The Paper Mill: Beautiful retreat. Stunning views
A beautifully converted Grade II watermill garden apartment. A tranquil country hideaway, stunningly light, with floor to ceiling south facing windows looking out over a private and exclusive flower strewn garden and the green surrounding countryside. Situated on the crest of Bath's skyline, De Montalt Mill offers the best of both worlds. Only 1.5 miles walk/bus from the World Heritage City of Bath, yet surrounded by rolling fields and birdsong. De Montalt Mill was originally built in the early 19th century to manufacture high quality paper used by the best artists of the day including JWM Turner and Constable. Set on the southerly outskirts of Bath, just below the village of Combe Down, De Montalt Mill offers the best of both worlds - the tranquility of the countryside, with outstanding views, within walking distance from the hustle and bustle of the World Heritage City of Bath. Enjoy your sundowners on the first floor veranda or in the walled garden below, whilst you look out at the beautiful surrounding views. Amenities such as a mainline railway station giving direct access to London Paddington plus an excellent selection of restaurants and cultural interests including the Theatre Royal are all very accessible. And there are walks aplenty, through bluebell woods and wildflower meadows, along the river, the canal, to pretty Cotswolds pubs that serve delicious food. You have all access to the apartment which is on two floors. The first floor opens out onto a wooden decked veranda with steps down to the ground floor private garden level. You have exclusive use of the garden, it's all yours, and the apartment. As I am a travel writer, I unfortunately won't be there to welcome guests myself but I have an arrival pack with clear instructions on everything you need to know to enjoy your stay and make it as comfortable as possible. There is an easily accessible key box and details inside the apartment for what to do when you check out. In one direction, guests can walk through green fields and single track cowslip strewn country roads to the Wheelwright Arms in the village of Monkton Combe, and in the other a ten minute walk or bus ride down the hill into Bath. Guests can have coffee and breakfast and delicious deli lunches at The Darling Deli in Combe Down, or visit the National Trust Prior Park Landscape gardens on their way into town. There are long walks that can be taken to the pretty surrounding villages of Southstoke and Combe Hay and the famous Two Tunnel Cycle path runs right beside the house, so guests can bike into town if they like, or into the beautiful town of Bradford on Avon. We have very specific parking allocated to the property which will be given at check in. There are spaces for two cars. There are good bus serves into Bath, which you can get from Combe Down Village (A 5 minute walk), excellent taxi services. Bath train station is also just a five minute drive down the road. We live in a very quiet place and have lovely neighbours living around us who I would hate to upset. With that in mind we request that noise is kept to a minimum, especially after 10pm. I'm afraid I have to say no to parties/hen or stag weekends. Our home is suitable for families or friends wanting to spend quality time together. I am more than happy to accommodate parties less than six and to adjust the price for requests of four or less.
