Blackwood "Treetops"
An almost entirely open plan house with a vast master bedroom upstairs and a bunk room downstairs, the house sleeps up to six, with a modern kitchen, wood fire, outside deck and large garden, set close by the Wombat State Forest. Suitable for children over five. Pet friendly. Blackwood 'Treetops' is also work friendly as the house has a large desk with landline and internet access. Due to the coronavirus, we are taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between reservations. An almost entirely open plan house with a vast master bedroom upstairs and a bunk room downstairs, the house sleeps up to six, with an internal room (with a door!) just off the living room. The modern kitchen flows into the dining area, which seats 6, and then opens onto the comfortable living area, with wood fire and a plasma TV. The front deck also seats 6 and is nestled in the secrecy of the large established garden ringing the house. The upper deck has a cosy table for two overlooking views of the forest and surrounding hills. The two main bedrooms feature luxurious queen size beds with doonas and wardrobes. The third bedroom has two single beds and a desk, making it ideal for couples with children. There is a laundry and the bathroom is light and large, with bath and shower. Towels and sheets are provided. Access is to the whole house and its amenities. There is a garden shed where we keep tools that can be accessed, and a small hut where we store spare items, that we keep closed and locked. Frauke will send you out instructions on how to get to the house and information about locating the keys which you will access yourself. She will also check to see how you are going, during your stay. Blackwood'Treetops' has a house book, which includes the Wifi password, relevant phone numbers. Additionally, it has lots of tips for things to do, and the basics on how to light and maintain the fire, and the like. Frauke can be reached by mobile phone at most times (meetings at work permitting--just leave a message and I will try to get back to you). But be aware that mobile service is limited in Blackwood. Enjoy cycling and hiking in the forest, go down to the Mineral Springs and try the spring water, or visit the award-winning gardens at Garden of St Erth. Stop in for a coffee and cake at the café there, or walk casually back into town for lunch at the Blackwood Merchant. Make a quick trip over to Daylesford for the afternoon and have a massage, sauna and spa. Take advantage of the fully-equipped kitchen, or pop down to the Blackwood Hotel for dinner. Then relax by the wood fire and while away an evening with games or movies, or simply sit in the huge bathtub and look up at the stars through the ceiling window. In the morning, get up early to find kangaroos outside on the grass, or lie in bed until mid-morning when the birdsong happens. Blackwood is mainly accessible by car. You will basically need a car for getting around the local area. The exception to this--the reason I said "mainly" above--is that there is a train station 20km away in Ballan, which lies on the Melbourne--Ballarat railway line. It is possible to cycle from the station to Blackwood, and around the (hilly!) local area, if you are keen and fit. Perhaps more realistically, it is also possible to meet other visitors, or split your party, at the railway station. Please read the instructions in the house book about the wood heater, the enviro-cycle waste plant, and about emergency procedures.
