'We're Good To Go' The Old Reading Room has achieved 'We're Good To Go' COVID-19 certification from Visit England for our high standards of compliance and hygiene, so you can book with confidence. Charming 2 bedroom cottage dating back to the early 1800s. Lots of living space, rolling garden with uninterrupted views over the majestic ruins of Corfe Castle. Two open fires, great dining pub over the road, stunning walks, beaches, steam train. Two double bedrooms with feather duvets and down pillows Travel cot with comfy mattress Two fold-up cube mattresses (great for kids) Cosy sitting room with large fireplace Dining room and reading room with fireplace Large eat-in conservatory Newly refurbished bathroom with slate floor, heated towel rail, rain shower and bath Kitchen with oil fired rayburn, double electric oven, large fridge freezer, washing machine and small eating area (2 stools) Tumble dryer Large garden and decked terrace from where you get a breathtaking view across Corfe Common to Corfe Castle Please note: * The cottage has very steep staircases so small children should be supervised (the steepest has a child gate installed) * Although the road passing the front of the cottage is a back road through a quiet village, it is the only access to the stone quarries at Worth Matravers and surrounding farmland, so there is some associated traffic. You will have private use of the whole cottage I will be available at the end of the phone for emergencies throughout your stay. I have a local housekeeper who can help if need be. Purbeck is officially designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Jurassic coastline is a World Heritage Site. Much of it is under the ownership of The National Trust. Some of the highlights within either walking distance or a short drive from the cottage are: · Climbing up to the 11th century ruins of William the Conqueror's Corfe Castle · Taking the steam train from Corfe Castle to Swanage and back · Crossing from Studland to Sandbanks on the chain ferry · Whiling away the day in the old-fashioned seaside town of Swanage with its Victorian pier · Exploring Durlstone Country Park · Walking the South West Coastal path · Taking in the solitude of the Norman chapel at St Aldhelms Head (a Scheduled Ancient Monument) · Visiting a different beach every day · Fossil hunting on the seashore at Kimmeridge · Marvelling at the spectacular landforms of Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Old Harry Rocks · Clambering down to greet the sea at the old cliff-edge quarries of Dancing Ledge or Winspit · Learning about marine life at Kimmeridge Marine Centre · Exploring the ghost village of Tyneham · Day-tripping to Brownsea Island · Taking the kids to Monkey World, Farmer Palmers or The Bovington Tank Museum · Horse riding on the beach at Studland · Days out at Kingston Lacey, Athelhampton, Lulworth Castle or Hardy's Cottage · Scuba diving, sailing, windsufing, kitesurfing, sea fishing A car is recommended but buses to Swanage and Wareham pass hourly through the village. No designated parking but free on-street parking very close by. Full information including local taxi included in our Welcome Notes.
