The house has two upstairs listings but because of the pandemic only one booking will be taken at a time while any risk to guests remains. Travelling solo? Feel welcomed and secure, no surcharge. Those expecting 5 star facilities at this budget price please note **no pool**no TV**no airconditioning**(radiators in rooms in winter, fans in summer). GREAT base for exploring as Velez is near everything. Casa Excéntrico is a traditionally built and, as the name suggests, somewhat eccentric, house in the small busy Spanish town of Velez de Benaudalla, very popular with writers, artists, hikers and cyclists. It is also 15 minutes by car from the spectacular Costa Tropical, 45 minutes from lovely Granada city and the Alhambra Palace. Alsa runs an airconditioned coach service up to 8 times a day between Motril and Granada for those without a car. In winter it is close enough to the Sierra Nevada for a day's skiing. All the best of Granada province on your doorstep . . . The entire upstairs level of the house is for guest use, sharing only the entrance hall and atrium with the owner’s downstairs apartment. There are two completely separate bedrooms and the entire apartment can comfortably sleep 4. Solo guests or couples choose between the front, double, room with windows onto the street, or the atrium-facing twin bedroom, with beds which can be made up separately or with shared linen - if the latter, please state your preference when booking. While there remains any risk from Covid19 you will always be the only guest(s). Only one photo is shown of the second bedroom here, more can be seen on its own listing, headed "Recharge your creative batteries". The apartment is self-catering and has a fridge, microwave, 2 plate electric hob, and all the necessary extras - kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery, etc. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar, bottled water and condiments are stocked for your arrival. Placid pets are welcome, although the owner does have a dog and cat. In need the terrace and atrium can be separated completely. The pricing realistically reflects the lack of certain 5 star facilities. It is a comfortable base for exploration rather than a destination in itself - the Excéntrico started life as a goat farm and family home a century ago but the town has long since closed around it. The plumbing is modern, the hot water excellent and plentiful. However, although there is good wifi, there is no television, no pool, and, thanks to those thick traditional walls, one manages without air-conditioning. Fans and heaters are in the rooms depending on the season. The house is not suitable for children under the age of reason. The first bedroom is off the upstairs landing, the second is through the living area . Each have their own shower, basin and toilet, and the second has a little extra study or dressing room of its own. The entire apartment is fully furnished and ready for your arrival. Downstairs there are general use areas such as the atrium, terrace, a sun-trap patio outside the former goat shed, and a separate laundry (once the smokehouse). Velez is 5 minutes from the A44 and national motorways, which means it is conveniently near everything. It is not touristy, although many have holiday homes here, as it is such a nice town. The Jardin Nazari, a beautifully recreated nod to the town's Moorish origins, is 5 minutes walk from the house. Nearly everything is - the gym, municipal swimming pools in August, high street banks, shops, and restaurants, and that coach service between Motril and Granada for non-drivers, with stops in the high street. If you want to visit the Alhambra Palace in Granada it is recommended you book ahead, even at quieter times of year. The Costa Tropical's winter is crisp and invigorating, and the hikers and cyclists love it. The pavement cafes are wonderful - not to mention two bakeries in easy walking distance. The bread van stops outside our door Monday through Saturday around 11 am. With 320 days of sunshine a year winter days are usually sunny but the nights can get nippy, there are radiators in the rooms and extra covers provided. Summer finds fans in each room, and the old walls are so thick the house is generally cool. Drop off luggage or shopping at the door and find street parking nearby - there always is. Those without cars, there is a good coach service running through the town between Motril and Granada. Cyclists can hire good bikes locally, and keep them safely in the hall. It is a small town, and has everything you need in reasonable walking distance. Between midnight and nine am the doors between atrium and terrace are locked for additional security. The host is South African / British and speaks English with a little Dutch, French, and German. Spanish is improving by the day but is not fluent. Velez was built in Moorish times and has narrow twisting streets surrounded by open farms. It shares the gentle coastal climate of the Costa Tropical, and the Jardin Nazari is a beautifully restored step back into the past. Velez is a small and bustling town with crammed corner shops, mini supermarkets, bakeries and delis, 3 banks, a daily fresh fish / meat market on weekdays, plus the bread van stops at the house every morning around 10.30. Drinks at the pavement cafes have friendly prices and include the day's special tapas as standard. Menus are varied and the food is good - with so much on offer in easy walking distance, guests rarely eat in. Velez is well signposted off the A44, which links to the E15/A7 arterial motorway system. The church (Iglesia) is the heart of the town, with a fountain roundabout, and our street is directly opposite. Drivers can drop luggage or shopping off at the front door, then find nearby street parking. Non-drivers - airconditioned coaches run several times a day to Motril and Granada, and the stops in each direction are a short walk from the church square. Coaches also run from Motril along the coast road in both directions, to Malaga, etc., and the prices are extremely reasonable. Cyclists can hire good bikes locally or bring their own. Bikes can be kept in the hall when not in use. The house is fully locked up at midnight unless guests are still out (there is a simple tab system showing who is in or out). Owner lives on premises in separate downstairs apartment, also teaches online from 12.30 to 4 (from 11.30 in winter) and is unavailable when teaching. The atrium doors are closed at dark and barred between midnight and 9 am, which does mean no access to the laundry between these times.
