This charming cottage lies in an idyllic location, offering a stunning outlook over the famous village of Rennes-le-Château. The cottage is located on a quiet back road between Couiza and Espéraza in the beautiful Aude Valley, close to the Corbières Massif. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we abide by the UNPLV health protocol. We have also relaxed our cancellation policy. The cottage offers high speed Wi-Fi broadband, a fully equipped kitchen/diner, 1 double bedroom (with king-size bed), 1 twin room, a large family bathroom with bath and shower, and a spacious, sunny lounge with a wood burner, sofa, TV/DVD player, CD and vintage record player, Bluetooth speaker and patio doors leading out to a large, secluded terrace with Rattan dining furniture, ideal for al fresco dining. A further shady terrace is equipped with a BBQ. The large 1/2 acre garden, which contains a beautiful fig tree and its own original well, enjoys the sun all day, and yet offers plenty of natural shade if desired, as well as sun beds, deck chairs and a hammock to relax and read in! From the garden there are stunning views to Rennes-le-Château and over open countryside. It really is a perfect haven to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and climate that this area has to offer. The Railway Cottage is situated in the lower part of the medieval village of Montazels, which sits above the banks of the River Aude between Espéraza and Couiza. Espéraza is famous for its Sunday market and its local products. Couiza is a buzzing little village boasting an excellent hotel and restaurant, and is itself just a short car journey from Limoux, which is famous for its annual carnival, its abundant antique markets and its famous blanquette! The department of Aude is situated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, which is one of the largest wine producing regions in Europe. This helpful website provides photos and information about Languedoc-Roussillon and its many natural and manmade attractions. The Aude Valley offers a large variety of sports and outdoor activities, ranging from kayaking down the charming River Aude to skiing down the nearby slopes of Camurac and swimming in the beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, which are just an hour's drive away. Historic attractions in the area include the mysterious Cathar castles that you will find dotted around the region, and, of course, the unforgettable Cité de Carcassonne, a huge medieval fortress which is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by stunning hills and lakes, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty which you will struggle not to fall in love with! Bed linen and towels provided.
