Selgars Mill has a site-wide vegetarian policy. The Mill is a huge, converted 19th-century mill house set in 8 acres of secluded grounds in Devon. Sleeps up to 17 people, across 7 charming bedrooms. The stunning 48ft kitchen dining space seats large groups and is very spacious with its own snug and wood burning stove. We have a strict vegetarian policy on site which we ask guests to respect. The ground floor reception room is full of rustic charm, including the old mill machinery. With the ongoing global pandemic, the safety of our guests and staff remains our highest priority. We will have specific Covid-19 cleaning standards and policies in place, and will keep contact between hosts and guests to a minimum. We are a perfect place for family and friends gathering however we do not host parties. Selgars Mill is part of a quiet community and has neighbours and other guests staying in accommodation. Selgars Mill is a residential training centre: a centre for the democratic economy, climate emergency and social change. We have a strict vegetarian policy for all guests to adhere with our values. Until the (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) s, the mill house was a working flour mill and many of its original features have been preserved. On the ground floor you will find the original workings of the mill wheel, a large wood stove, and even a piano. The whole first floor has been opened up to create a huge space perfect for large groups: big families and groups of friends. The space is set up as an enormous dining space and generous open plan kitchen with plenty of room for creating feasts for your group, but including a snug corner with sofas and a tv. The first floor space spills out onto a south facing balcony. The 12 beds, which are arranged across seven rooms over the top two floors and can sleep up to 16 people maximum. The house is warmed with biomass fired central heating, and by the wood burning stoves. The hot water is heated by solar panels on the roof. Care and attention has been taken to source everything we can from local, ethical and ecological suppliers. From every window we see gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside and as the house faces due south it is often flooded with light. In addition to the charming rooms and amenities inside the main house, you’ll have shared access to the full 8 acre site: four-acres of woodland, a woodland fire pit, millpond and surrounding waterways, permaculture gardens, and beautiful meadows. There’s lots of room to explore, play games and enjoy the incredible diversity of wildlife we have on site. Selgars Mill has a strict site- wide vegetarian policy which extends to no meat or fish to be cooked or consumed indoors or outside . This is an ethical decision and is not flexible. Check-in is from 4pm and check out time is 11am , these need to be kept to as we have a same day turnaround for bookings. We have a noise curfew of 10pm outside and 12am inside. We ask that guests are considerate to the on-site staff and neighbours and therefore appreciate outside noise, including on the balcony being kept to a minimum after 10 pm. There is no access to the other buildings on site. The barns, marquee, cottages and the shepherds hut are all off limits. You’ll have access to all the facilities of the millhouse and the grounds, except for the other buildings (cottages, barns, marquee, shepherds hut). The house is a four storey ex-working Mill with many original features exposed and intact. The roof beams in the top floor bedrooms are pretty low, though the ceilings themselves are light and lofty. There is a wide wrought iron spiral staircase connecting each floor, so we're sorry to say, it is unsuitable for those with mobility issues and for unsupervised infants. The abundance of streams and ponds are a delightful feature but require caution. We will leave joining instructions and keys for you in the postbox outside the Mill House to allow for a contact free check in . Your host will be contactable via (Hidden by Airbnb) or email. As hosts live on site, you may see us around but we'll keep to ourselves. Staff will need access to the laundry/utility room on the ground floor, but it has a separate entrance. Other than that, the whole millhouse is yours. There may be other guests on site as we do rent out one of the cottages and the shepherds hut separately. The Mill is an idyllic setting in the Devon countryside. Our 8 acres of grounds and the surrounding meadows and woodland are host to a rich diversity of wildlife: deer, otters, kingfishers, frogs, newts, bats, hawks, foxes, shrews, voles, badgers, rabbits, and all manner of wading fowl and songbirds. We also have some resident runner ducks. If you have dogs we will keep the ducks in the walled vegetable garden (where they fest on slugs!). Otherwise they’ll be out and about in the river. If you do choose to go further afield, the nearest village is Uffculme, a cosy settlement with a handful of pubs, cafes and shops. Also very nearby is Willand with a Co-op. Given the proximity of public transport and our ethical and ecological ethos we limit the number of on site private cars to 5 per house booking with an additional 2 by prior arrangement. Tiverton Parkway train station is just 2½ miles from us. There are local bus services that stop a few hundred metres from the site entrance, connecting you to Uffculme - the closest village - as well as Exeter, Tiverton and Cullompton. The mill is currently serviced by a cesspit. This means that any non-dissolvable items can clog the pipes and pumps which could lead to blockages and flooding. Please do not flush anything non dissolvable. At the end of your stay please strip your beds and place on the bed it came from. Empty recycling and bathroom bins at the recycling area in the courtyard. Leave the house tidy and please take any unused food and toiletries away with you.
