Entire Cottage, Portscatho, Cornwall
A minute's walk from the beach, this bright former fisherman's cottage is in the centre of the tranquil village of Portscatho on the south coast of Cornwall. With its generous proportions and rich, colourful style, Sunnyside sleeps up to 4 adults and a child. A local pub, coffee shop and restaurant are moments away, while the award-winning Hidden Hut is a short walk across the cliffs. Short-stays are available out of season, so please enquire if you'd like to book a shorter stay. On a private road about 100 yards from the beach is a row of colourful fisherman's cottages. In the centre of these, cheerfully decorated with bright yellow detailing, is 2 Sunnyside. The open plan living space with its wood burning stove is spacious and ideal for families. It’s all brightly decorated with a mixture of carefully chosen modern furniture and vintage pieces from South Africa and Mexico. The book-filled master bedroom is a generous size with no expense spared on comfort, while the twin beds in the second bedroom can be connected into a full size bed. There is a third bedroom which can be either a study/reading room, or a kid's bedroom (the daybed can be used as a bed for a child). There is a family bathroom with a bath and shower. The kitchen leads onto an enclosed courtyard with a dining table. Just inside the back entrance to the house is a "wet area" for wetsuits, beach toys, boots, etc., leading directly onto a dedicated laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer, basin and clothes rack. In winter, the cottage is fully equipped for home cooking; there is a selection of recipe books in the kitchen, kitchenware is largely Le Creuset with porcelain imported from Portugal. A selection of kids' games and DVDs are provided. Guests will have private use of the entire house which includes a delightful enclosed courtyard garden. The house is accessed by key safe. We are available by phone and email anytime, as well as a property manager who can come over should there be any problems. Portscatho is a picturesque harbour town overlooking a small sandy beach. The coastal path cuts right through the village leading, in one direction, towards the Hidden Hut and Pendower beach, and in the other towards the long and sandy Towan beach. Along the way there are many other hidden coves and beaches to explore. The calm sea makes Portscatho beach ideal for children, while paddle boarders and swimmers enjoy the sea year-round. Portscatho has a local pub, butcher, art galleries, and a well-stocked village store. Foodies will appreciate Tatam's coffee shop and the wood-fired Taverna, with its regularly changing menu and locally sourced ingredients, both sited directly over the beach with uninterrupted views across the bay to Gull Rock. A 10 minute walk over the cliffs brings you to the infamous Hidden Hut cafe, whose ‘feast night’ dinners sell out within seconds of opening. The cosy, traditional Plume of Feathers pub is a minute's walk from the property. During the summer months, Curgurrell's fishery and farm shop - over the cliffs - stocks fresh produce, including fish from their own harbour. There is no dedicated parking at the house, but a permit is provided for the nearby carpark (3 minutes' walk from cottage). The third bedroom is set up as a study/reading room. There is a daybed in it which a child could sleep on, but is not comfortable enough for an adult. The house has been prepared with families in mind. It has a travel cot, high chair and one stair gate at the top of the steps. There is also a selection of kids' toys in the living room cupboard. The blinds in the bedrooms are not blackout blinds. However, there are portable blackout blinds available which can be attached to the windows if needed.
