North side of Lake Balaton is the traditional vacation place of the Hungarian noble. The panoramic view of the lake, hilly vineyards and almond orchards make the place inviting in all seasons. Balatoncsicsó is a dead-end village with ca. 200 inhabitant, living on mainly winemaking and tourism. Local shop and pub is run by the mayor of the village. Tihany (20 km) is a picturesque peninsula with the Benediction Abbey; from here you can cross the lake by ferry. Zánka (7 km) is the nearest beach. Nagyvázsony (9km) is famous for its castle and church built in the 15. Century, you can visit many museums here. Káli basin, especially Köveskál (11 km) is well-known for its fine dining restaurants and wine. Káptalantóti (19 km) is famous for its Sunday-market, it is a meeting place of locals, tourists and weekend-house owners of the region. Balatoncsicsó is near the road 71 that goes around the Lake. Monoszló (2 km) has a Geological Visitor Site on the Hill Hegyestű. Tapolca (25 km) has a Lake Cave and Visitor Centre. There is a Buffalo Reserve in Kápolnapuszta, too. Hiking and riding a bike are very popular activities, as our picturesque hilly region offers a diverse landscape worth to hike /bike on.
