Cosy lodge in perfect coastal position
FULL REFUND IF COVID PREVENTS TRAVEL Lundy Lodge is a self contained annex of Channel View (available as a separate house sleeping 6, or combined with the Lodge to sleep 8). It has a double bed, kitchen/diner (with views over the Devon coast) and a shower room/toilet. Perfect location for exploring the Gower, with direct access to the coastal path, National Trust plantation and many cliff top, beach and countryside walks/cycling from the doorstep. Sunday check-in by prior agreement only Lundy Lodge is the perfect base for a couple (or couple of friends) who want to experience the best of the Gower, even if they want to park the car and leave it for the duration of the stay. Dogs are welcome but not allowed on the beds. Rhossili is a gorgeous village at the tip of the Gower Peninsula (itself Number 1 in the New Your Times places to visit 2021!) which boasts a phenomenal sandy surf beach (regularly listed as one of the UK's top beaches and which has also featured in Conde Nast's World's top 10 ), a pub, bistro, coffee shops and an art gallery. There is a National Trust shop and other seasonal shops and there are plans to have a tea room in the National Trust shop in 2021, to make the best of the spectacular sunflowers and lavender that grow on the headland in the summer. The property now has a double bed, rather than 2 singles. The property can be combined with Channel View (sleeps 6) to create a bigger space if required.here is very easy access to Rhossili beach (the steps to the beach start 2 minutes away) and the local pub and bistro. As well as walking, there is great surfing, bird/wildlife watching, several local restaurants (including the Michelin started “Beach House” in Oxwich) and also satellite TV and wifi if you are feeling less energetic. There is free parking on site. The lodge directly adjoins the main house and so if there is a family staying in the house you may hear them. It has very rarely been reported as an issue as we do ask the house guests to be respectful and not to use the adjoining room after 10pm and before 8 although this is difficult to enforce unless we are made aware of breaches at the times. Guests have access via their own entrance (from a shared outdoor dining area) to a cosy kitchen/diner with views over farmland to the coast, over to Lundy Island, and on a clear day, to North Devon. There is a shower room with loo and a large double bedroom including TV and a large walk in wardrobe. Check-in is 7pm unless otherwise agreed. You are free to leave your car at the property from 4pm. There are plenty of things to do within walking distance (including the beach, walks, a pub and bistro) so come prepared! Check-out is 9am on weekdays, 10am weekends unless prior agreed otherwise (we have to work around our cleaner (good and reliable cleaners are as hard to find as pixies and goblins on the Gower so we don’t want to upset Sarah who also has to work around other properties). We will not disturb you but can be available in case of an emergency by telephone. Lundy Lodge is within a couple of minutes walk of the local village with pub and bistro. It is also almost directly adjacent to the National Trust owned headland providing the starting point for many walks as well easy access to the World renowned Rhossili beach. The National Trust land includes the World Famous sunflower fields in the summer. Rhossili is considered to be the jewel in the Gower coast crown (the Gower itself is a beautiful area, being Britain's first protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Number 1 in the New York Times places to visit 2021!). The beach at Rhossili has frequently been awarded a spot in "World's Top 10 Beaches" awards (including Conde Naste) as there is 3.5 miles of gently shelving soft sand backed by sand dunes, with water that is safe enough for bathing yet with some of the best surf in the U.K. It is dog friendly all year round (as the tide washes most of the beach daily). We love keeping the windows open at night to hear the waves, and the sunset over Rhossili has consistently been voted one of the best in the UK. Rhossili is a gorgeous village with a pub, bistro, coffee shops and an art gallery. There is a National Trust shop and other seasonal shops and spectacular sunflowers and lavender that grow on the headland in the summer. The city of Swansea is only 35 minutes drive away, but there is little reason to leave the Gower as there are several pubs and restaurants (including a Michelin restaurant at Oxwich) as well as plenty of shops for supplies. There are also numerous other beaches to explore, almost all within walking distance, depending on how energetic you are feeling. South Wales boasts many other spectacular sights, ranging from several ancient castles to the remote splendour of the Brecon Beacons. Rhossili is unusual for coastal Gower villages in that the road is relatively easy so there is very rarely need to back-up. The local bus service has a stop within yards of the property and serves most of the villages on Gower as well as the city of Swansea. However, why use a car or bus when there is such spectacular walking? The key safe is at the rear of the main house, adjacent to the Lundy Lodge sign.
