A lovingly renovated and sun filled apartment in the old bank. Sitting on the top floor of the bank, this apartment allows for stunning panoramic views. Your front door is just a few strides from the square, with a butchers, bakers, shop, tabac, bars and restaurants. A short stroll down the hill will bring you to the Subterranean Church and then a little way on is the River Dronne which has a beach and grass area to its side, not forgetting the bar/cafe which is open all through summer. What was once the bank managers apartment, we have lovingly renovated the space into a spacious two bedroom apartment. 2 Large ensuite bedrooms, open plan kitchen, dining and lounge with large windows looking down to the river. We hope you'll love it as much as us. You will have the entire apartment to yourselves, the main entrance is shared with the downstairs apartment, but you have separate internal front door. The apartment is on the first floor accessed by a flight of stairs. Should you need any assistance during your stay, then please don't hesitate to knock on our door. (we live just next door) Everything is on your doorstep here, churches, shops, bars, restaurants, river beach, cycle ways, walks, canoeing, the list goes on. Conveniently situated on the border of the “South” Charente and the Dordogne, Aubeterre sur Dronne boasts an exceptional cultural heritage which, combined with its beautiful natural surroundings and the famous French “art de vivre”, makes it the perfect place to live and visit. Officially listed as one of « The Most Beautiful Villages in France» since 1993, it has welcomed pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella in north west Spain, visitors and tourists for over 1000 years. Two important historical monuments add to the cultural status of Aubeterre sur Dronne; the extraordinary, monolithic, underground Church of St Jean and the Romanesque Church of St Jacques, with its stunning façade. Visitors and tourists can enjoy meandering through the ups and downs of the narrow streets, popping in to admire the many specialist shops, including a leather worker and potters, and then settling down in the village square, Place Trarieux, at one of the cafés or restaurants, comfortably shaded by ancient lime trees. For the energetic visitor there are activities aplenty. Aubeterre sur Dronne has been designated a “Station Verte” for over 25 years. At the foot of the village, where the meadows meet the River Dronne, are to be found a river beach and restaurant, the municipal three star campsite, a canoeing centre, the football club, and the village’s very active tennis club Should you wish to leave the village, then a car is your best mode of transport with other villages and some smaller towns within a 10-15 minute drive. There are quite a few cycle routes from and through the village, so if you are here on two wheels, you won't be disappointed. Maps of these routes can be obtained from the tourist office situated within the village car park. Within the village itself there are plenty of amenities that you can walk to and from or should you like to see the area by water, you can hire canoes and kayaks at the river beach. Aubeterre holds a weekly market every Sunday, its the perfect place to pick up local delicacies and people watch whilst enjoying a coffee and pastry in the square. During the summer months there is also a bustling night market with an abundance of stalls and great music. Whether on holiday or here for a wedding, you really are close to everything the village has to offer. Due to this apartment being on the top floor, this means there is a flight of stairs which may not be suitable for all, however, the view to the rear is beautiful because of its elevation. Parking is in the village car park which is just a 1-2 minute walk away. The pretty narrow streets aren't wide enough to accommodate parked cars, but by all means drop your luggage off and then park the car should you not want to bring your cases down the hill.
