Vintage Shepherd's hut in the heart of Somerset
A vintage shepherd's hut nestling in the heart of the Somerset levels, which has been sympathetically restored outside and modernised inside. Sleep under the stars (cloud cover providing!) and wake to a chorus of bird song. During the day, you could cycle or birdwatch on the Levels; fish; hit the beach (5 miles); visit historic Glastonbury (15 miles) or Wells (16 miles); or outlet shop at Clarke’s Village (13 miles). Finish the day with a BBQ, as you watch the sun go down from the hut’s veranda. I have recently modernised this wonderful vintage shepherd's hut. Guests enter via a small set of steps onto a veranda with views over a field (which is home to a couple of horses) and towards the village. I have added acrylic sheets to the veranda in order to provide a protected space to sit, eat, or watch the sun go down. From here, you step through the Dutch door into the compact and cosy living area with its modern kitchenette (with sink, cupboards, combination microwave/oven/grill, and fridge), its wardrobe, and its sofa bed, which pulls out to become a small double bed (measuring 1800mm x 1100mm). At the end of the hut, you will find an ensuite shower area and flushing toilet (the sink is in the kitchenette). The hut stands in my front garden, where you have plenty of private space to sit; cook on a gas BBQ (gas provided); sit round the fire pit (starter pack of logs provided), and relax. For an additional fee, I can also provide a hot tub. Parking is provided in front of the main field gate. The hut lives down the end of a private lane in a quiet, rural village on the Somerset Levels. You really need a car, motorbike, bicycle, or sturdy walking boots to get around. We do have a bus service, but, like many rural villages, it has its limits! As an alternative, local taxis are normally very reliable. Except at peak times or during local events, parking in local towns is usually available (but must be paid for). We are located in a quiet village on the Somerset Levels, surrounded by nature: badgers, foxes, sheep, cows, horses, birds, and fish. We have great pubs, historic towns (Wells and Glastonbury), fantastic beaches at Burnham-on-Sea and Brean, and outlet bargains at Clarke's Village. Because much of the area is flat, cycling is popular, as is birdwatching and fishing. In addition to it's beach, Burnham-on-Sea (5 miles away) has a super little independent cinema, a range of independent shops, restaurants, takeaways, and a pier. If you would like to go a bit further, we are wrapped around by the Mendip and Quantock Hills. As with other rural villages, we have a thin bus service. Local taxis are usually reliable. Realistically, though, to get around, you will need a car, a motorbike, bicycles, or sturdy walking boots! Unless there is an event on, parking in local towns is usually available (but it has to be paid for). I am happy to provide a scones, jam, and cream tea for you on arrival. Please contact me for details. I am happy to provide items (bacon, eggs, bread, sausages etc) that you might like to cook for breakfast. Please contact me for details. Because of the steps up to the hut, and its compact size, I regret that I cannot offer wheelchair access. Cripps River Spar, which offers holistic therapies, operates in the village. contact me for details. This is a quiet and relaxed venue. Party people, it isn't for you!
