The Sanctuary estate consists of a renovated cottage that is available for Air BnB guests and separate outbuildings (stables) that have been converted into three independent studios next door to each other (Studios 1, 2, and 3). Currently, Studio 3 (440 square feet) is available for Air BnB guests (please see my other listing for The Sanctuary - Studio 1: Perfect Getaway for 2). The host stays from time to time in Studio 2. The Sanctuary estate, formerly a donkey sanctuary, sits on an elevated five-acre site in a peaceful, rural area surrounded by Gortacurka (Irish for field of the oats) Forestry. It has views in the distance of Mullaghmore Hill, the Burren Hills, Corofin village, Lake Inchiquin, and Ballycullinan Lake. One can relax to the sounds of the birds in the forestry, hear the wind in the trees, or listen to the babbling stream that flows through the estate especially after a rain shower. There is very little light pollution here so on a clear night, the stars are quite spectacular. Your host is available to meet and greet you and can be reached by mobile or through Air BnB for any questions you may have during your stay. Your host will also respect your private space and boundaries. Studio 3: An elegant getaway for 2 is a 10-15 minute drive from the medieval town of Ennis which is the cultural capital of County Clare and an 8 minute drive from Corofin village, known as one of the gateways to the incredible Burren region where the Burren National Park is located. Corofin is also home to The Burren National Park Information Point which features interpretative displays about the flora, fauna, and geology of The Burren. This picturesque village is also 20 kms from the Wild Atlantic Way. The Sanctuary is situated just 30-45 minutes from Ireland's most visited tourist attraction, the Cliffs of Moher. Rising slowly from Doolin village, the cliffs ascend to over 700 feet (213 meters) stretching south for almost five miles (8 kms) to Hag's Head. They are a must see for anyone visiting Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way. This property is within five minutes of a six-storey 15th century Gaelic tower house known as Dysert O'Dea Castle. Surrounding the castle is an architectural and archaeological paradise. One can walk the Dysert O'Dea Archaeology Trail (4 kms) containing 25 historical field monuments including St. Tola's 12th Century High Cross, a 12th century ruined abbey with elaborate Romanesque doorway and attached 12th century round tower. For water enthusiasts, Lahinch Beach is just a 35 minute drive from The Sanctuary. The flooding tide makes it ideal for surfing, sea kayaking, and kite surfing and there are a few surfing schools in the local area. This beach received the International Blue Flag Award for 2017. The studio is ideally located for painters, artists, and photographers due to the ever-changing views of the Burren Hills. This changing scenery allows one to fully appreciate the beauty of the Irish landscape. The lakelands around Corofin are an angler's paradise. The lakes of Inchiquin, Ballycullinan, Atedaun, Cullaun, and Dromore are all within 20-25 minutes drive from the property. The Sanctuary is conveniently located 35 minutes from Shannon International Airport, 40 minutes from Limerick City, and 75 minutes to Galway City, all via the motorway. Other things to note: Studio 3 has a high degree of insulation and with gas central heating, it is available for guests all year round. There is a stream flowing through the land so this property would not be suitable for kids. Parking is available on site. Some of the land is being landscaped in preparation to plant grass but no work will be done during your stay. Two outdoor cats live on the estate so unfortunately, pets are not allowed. These cats are not allowed into the studio but they may occasionally peep in the patio doors to say hello to you! Due to its rural and secluded location, a car is essential and there are narrow country lanes as you get close to The Sanctuary. To help you navigate, the Eircode for this property is V95 XY92.
