Large farmhouse in Snowdon, North Wales
Pen-y-Bryn is a traditional, stone-built Welsh farm house in Snowdonia National Park, sleeping up to nine people. With stunning sea and mountain views and being surrounded by its own fields and woodland, it's a haven of peace. Ideal for groups of friends and families with children, who can play in perfect safety. It's been our much loved holiday home for over fifty years and although the essential facilities are modern the furnishings favour practicality and comfort over uniform style! The large kitchen/diner is light and airy with a table that can seat 12 people, with ample crockery and cutlery for a large group. The extras - microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher are all modern, as is the hob and oven and there is ample kitchen ware for cooking any meals. The sitting room has comfortable sofas, a flat screen TV, DVD player, WiFi/Broadband hub and a wood-burning stove for the colder months. The house also has numerous night storage heaters. The bathroom and separate shower room are upstairs and there's also a downstairs cloakroom. There is a conservatory entrance outside the back door with loads of hooks for coats and places for muddy boots, is a real bonus on rainy days. The two front bedrooms are large while the two back bedrooms are slightly smaller but perfectly adequate for two people. All bed are equipped with duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels. There is a play barn with a pool table, dart board and table tennis table, and plenty of space for gathering on wet days. The family live too far away to be regularly available but we have a caretaker who lives in nearby Harlech and a lady who lives nearby who deals with the cleaning & changeovers. From the house there are spectacular views of the estuary, sea and mountains and it's only a ten minute walk to the village of Talsarnau, where there's a friendly pub, the Ship Aground. Another five minutes and you're on the vast, golden sands of the Traeth Bach estuary, (at mid to low tide!) with plenty of natural pools for swimming. For nature lovers our own oak woodland is full of nuthatches, tree-creepers, buzzards and other birds and the estuary is a national reserve, famed for it's waders, water fowl and even otters if you were lucky! In late May and June the sea -pinks on the saltings are spectacular and in July and August you can harvest fresh samphire to go with supper! St David's Golf Club, at Harlech is a famous links course and beyond the dunes, the three-mile-long beach is brilliant for kite-flying and for surfing, when the waves are good. There's a superb castle worth visiting at Harlech too and also ones at Caernarvon and Conway, not too far away. x There are great walks into the hills straight from the house with gorgeous lakes for swimming in. Further afield, the Snowden massif is only 30 minutes by car and from Talsarnau station you can connect with both the famous Ffestiniog narrow gauge railway and the recently restored Welsh Mountain Railway which now runs all the way to Caernarvon. During high season, mid July to end of August only week long bookings will be accepted with change over day being Saturday.
