The Old Workhouse B&B Bala, Snowdonia.
Welcome to Bala and the lakes, mountains and scenery of beautiful Snowdonia, home to a host of World Heritage sites and visitor attractions. At The Old Workhouse - a Grade 11* listed building - we serve a modern Welsh-influenced breakfast to set you up for the day ahead. The night before we provide you with a breakfast tick menu, from which you can choose what you want, and the time you want it. It is served in the kitchen at the time specified. The kitchen is large and spacious. The Poet's Room is very spacious and perfect for couples, or just friends, to come and enjoy the beautiful countryside, with a comfortable stay in a historic setting. We are located within Bala town and all it's facilities, and just five minutes stroll to Llyn Tegid, the largest natural lake in Wales - perfect for kayaking or paddle boarding. There are lots of beautiful local walks from the workhouse door, and the coast is an scenic 45-minute drive away. We are close to the national White Water Rafting Centre and lots of other outdoor activities such as zip-wires, Surf Snowdonia, cycling routes etc... National Trust Gardens, castles and stately homes are also in abundance in Snowdonia. You have your own spacious en-suite room, with flat screen tv, fridge and kettle. This is our home and we are always happy to chat and advise you about the local area, things to do, and activities available - or leave you in peace if that is what you prefer. If Ian starts to bore you with his history lecture of the workhouse, just tell him to shut up. We are friendly, hospitable people, and want to make your stay as happy and rewarding as possible. Bala is a thriving market town with a good choice of pubs, restaurants and cafes, as well as many artisan businesses, all within a short stroll from the workhouse. The town sits at the end of Lake Bala (Llyn Tegid), the largest natural lake in Wales and one of the most beautiful settings anywhere. A car is useful, but if you fancy a day out without driving there is a regular bus service from Wrexham, through Llangollen along the picturesque Dee Valley to Bala and then along the lake to Dolgellau and Barmouth on the coast. There is also a narrow gauge railway from Bala to Llanuwchllyn (in-season only) with a station about 10 minutes walk away. There are also many hillside walks, and cycle hire is available on the High Street - or you could kayak down the lake. Our guest rooms are on the top floor up two flights of stairs. The king-size bed can also be split into a twin, with two single beds, if required. Please specify on booking
