Monarch Country Apartments, beautifully created from a Victorian hotel, are in Newtonmore in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Within easy reach by road, coach or train, it is a perfect base for outdoor activities. There are a wealth of tourist attractions as well as spell-binding scenery - where the much-acclaimed Monarch of the Glen TV series was filmed. This well equipped and spacious flat has its own entrance, a large, airy, open plan living area, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. Monarch Country Apartments are set back from the main street with a large grassy area in front and driveway. It is an historic building on the Newtonmore Heritage Trail (leaflets on top of desk and by the entrance to the grounds). Originally built as a Victorian hotel at the time of railway expansion and the first wave of tourists to the Highlands of Scotland, the hotel was closed in 2001 and converted into apartments. Although the flats are modern, some of the original features have been retained. COVID-19 We are taking extra precautions with cleaning and our laundry service is using disinfectant and 60 degree washes. Guests have use of the entire flat. There is a private parking space and you have access to the surrounding gardens. Generally your host will not be able to greet guests but will be contactable by phone or email. Guests are given access to a key safe and additional keys are available in the property. A friend who lives locally and manages the changeovers is always available by phone if needed. The flat is in the village of Newtonmore is in Badenoch and Strathspey, in the Cairngorms National Park, close to the geographic centre of Scotland. It has outstanding scenery - the area in which the highly acclaimed Monarch of the Glen was filmed. Being a mountainous area there is a wealth of outdoor activities including hill walking, road and mountain biking, water sports, snow sports, ... There are several golf courses nearby and a chance to see the Scottish national sport of shinty with Newtonmore and Kingussie fielding high class teams. The area is also rich in wildlife with birds such as ospreys, ptarmigan, red kites and golden eagles and many wild animals, including the rare Scottish wildcats. Badenoch and Strathspey is well renowned for its wide range of whiskies - blended and single malt, Highland and Speyside, young and aged, the choice is vast! The nearby Dalwhinnie Distillery, the highest in altitude, offers a very interesting visitor experience, with tasting included. Getting there Newtonmore has good transport links - it is just off the main A9 trunk road, it is on the main rail link between London, Edinburgh and Glasgow to Inverness and there are City Link coaches linking Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth to Inverness via Newtonmore. The nearest airport is Dalcross Inverness, 50 miles to the north of Newtonmore. Bed linen and towels are provided. Everything will be ready for your arrival.
