Le Rote, a 15.000mq property, surrounded by ancient olives trees, a short walk from the white beaches of the Ionian Sea and the cliffs of Leuca, embraces all of the colours, flavours and charm of Salento. Two 300 years-old pagliare huts in the shade of time-honoured silver olive trees offer quiet, meditative hospitality amidst the new and old walls of the dwellings. Guests can enjoy the view of the sea from the terrace or go for a walk in the enchanting atmosphere of the Mediterranean brushwood behind the stone constructions. Le Rote are two villas, adjoining but autonomous, with 2 different private entrances, so they can be rented out individually or together if your group is big. La Rota piccola, about 60mq, has a living room with a corner kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a bath with a typical circular plan taken from the age-old pagliara. There is an extra bed in the living room. Outside on the big patio, there are benches built into the wall and a table that can accommodate 10 people. La Rota grande, about 110mq , has a fully equipped kitchen and a big living room with an extra bed, a bathroom and two bedrooms, one of which uses the old pagliara in its layout. Sleeping in this high-roofed, circular room with its skylight that lets you see the stars is an unforgettable experience! Outside, there is a big patio with couches and a table that can seat 12 people, covered by a pergola. Nearby there is a swimming pool area with a solarium. Free wifi for guests. Salento is a land of mirages, full of sweetness, dotted with olive and almond trees and prickly pears that merge with its music, dance, art and traditions of an extremely hospitable people. The peninsula of Salento is almost entirely flat, with conical shepherds’ huts called pagliare that rise from the windswept seaside plains, with the sun that dawns on the Adriatic Sea and sets on the Ionian Sea. From Otranto down the rocky coastline, with cliffs rising out of the Adriatic Sea, dotted with caves to discover from the sea, to Leuca, from the Greek “White” with its splendid Mooresque villas, to the endless gleaming white beaches of the Ionian Sea with the sun setting in the sea, to Gallipoli, from the Greek “Beautiful City”, with its splendid historical city centre, continuing to the oasis of Porto Selvaggio . The Baroque in Lecce, the distinctive architectural style in lower Salento, gives art lovers a splendid itinerary that starts in Lecce and touches on almost all of the historical centres of many little towns. The gastronomic tradition honours Mediterranean cuisine, with a variety of pasta dishes and homemade bread, vegetables and sweets with a vaguely Oriental flavour. The music and dance, traditionally known as “La Taranta” and “la Pizzica” have roots in the distant past, when they were seen as therapeutic means of liberating the afflicted from the “bite of the Tarantula”, actually an expression of social and psychic disorders. Today this musical heritage has been transformed into a true art form that during the hot summer nights in Salento fills the squares of all the city centres. There, you can take part in festivals with fireworks, bands and imposing “luminaries” for the patron saints’ feast days when all of the tourists get lost among the thousands of local inhabitants, who dance all night long
