The Bell Loft is the former maids' wing of Noddsdale House. It has been lovingly transformed into a charming holiday home for up to 5 people. We welcome children over 9 years old, but no pets. With it's own front door and a flight of stairs before you reach the accommodation, this is a beautiful place to unwind and recharge those batteries. Noddsdale House is situated in Brisbane Glen, just 2 miles from the centre of Largs, where you will find lots of great places to eat. There is a railway station so a train journey to Glasgow only takes an hour which saves taking the car to park! Museums, shops, theatres, concert halls await. Cumbrae is the closest island and a ferry runs from Largs pier. Cycling around the island is a popular pursuit as is a game of golf on the Millport golf course - with spectacular views over the Firth of Clyde. Wemyss Bay is the place to board the ferry for the Isle of Bute and Mount Stuart House - an extraordinarily interesting place with a fascinating history. The ferry for Arran leaves from Ardrossan and there you can find a Distillery, Brodick Castle, Goat Fell - a mighty climb! - and the most wonderful views. They say Arran is like Scotland in miniature! Kelburn Castle and Country Park is just to the south of Largs and has many delights for young and old with play areas and walks. The Marina at Largs Yacht Haven has a couple of great places to eat - Bosuns's Table for an informal meal or Scotts for a slighly more special one. Noddsdale is the most lovely sanctuary away from the hub-bub of everyday life and yet not far from the sights. Set in 200 acres of land, the mature grounds go up the hill behind the house and include some woodland and our hydro dam. Views from the top are wonderful on a sunny day in particular and you can see for miles in the right conditions. So bring your walking boots or wellies! The gardens surrounding the house are well maintained, although not always weed free, as we try to do most of this in house! The all weather tennis court is just below the Bell Loft and is shared with other guests from the East Wing, Willow Cottage and the family if they are at home. We provide some racquets and balls - but do bring your own if you have them. As family live in the main part of the house, we ask that their privacy be respected and so please use the parts of the gardens away from the front of the house. Otherwise, walk freely and find your favourite places. We are usually around and can be contacted by phone/text or email most of the time. Brisbane Glen is special for various reasons - one of them being that Sir Thomas MakDougall Brisbane, lived in Brisbane House which is no longer standing. He was an astronomer and had an Observatory in the glen on the lands of Brisbane, just opposite Noddsdale. He spent some time in Australia and built and Observatory there too. He was a Governer of New South Wales at one time and Brisbane, Australia was named after him. Noddsdale is 2 miles from the centre of Largs and the railway station. There are plenty of taxis in the town and buses, however not many local ones. We recommend that you have a car to move around.
