Beautiful Barn with Stunning Views across Dartmoor
The Barns at Vixen Tor Farm sit in a wooded Dartmoor valley, rich with wildlife and with far reaching views. Your stay promises to be cosy and comfortable, in a magical and peaceful setting. Dartmoor National Park surrounds the property and wild swimming, walking, foraging, riding, climbing and biking are quite literally on the doorstep. Tucked away in our secluded spot there is no traffic noise or light pollution, providing peace and quiet by day and breathtaking views of the stars at night. Two linked bank barns make up the accommodation, which is set in around 50 acres of private land. The barn conversions have been done to a high standard, creating a cosy and rustic feel with many unique features. The ground floor of the larger barn contains the bathroom (with full length bath), laundry facilities, an open plan kitchen, dining area and sitting room. It is overlooked by a mezzanine level which doubles as a sleeping area (comprising a sofa bed). The connected barn provides the main sleeping accommodation, with a king bed on the ground floor. A second mezzanine serves as additional sleeping space with a small double bed. The barns have underfloor heating powered by an air source heat pump, and heating can be augmented by the log-burner if desired. There is a designated parking area less than 50 metres from the front door, which is large enough for four vehicles. We can also accommodate trailers and horse boxes. Guests will have exclusive use of the Barns, immediate garden, private land of c50 acres - and of course the whole of Dartmoor which surrounds the property! There is also a separate garden room, which provides a perfect spot for therapies, yoga and meditation. The accommodation is provided with a range of optional extras which include various yoga, therapies and outdoor guiding options. Full details of these (and additional prices) can be provided on request. Vixen Tor Farm is located above an ancient oak forest, underneath the granite outcrop of Vixen Tor and above the steep sided Walkham Valley into which countless streams tumble. The site of Vixen Tor Farm was a Bronze Age farmstead and has been inhabited for over 3,500 years. Surrounded by trees and moorland, on the western boundary of the granite mass of Dartmoor and the surrounding metamorphic rock, our vast, mystical landscape is perfect for a calming and active break. We have access to cascading rivers, wild flower meadows, boulder strewn bluebell groves and the open moor – literally out the back door. The ancient and beautiful stannary town of Tavistock is ten minutes car journey from the end of the access drive - it hosts a wide range of independent shops, niche food stores, restaurants and popular covered market. Many of the surrounding villages boast excellent pubs - most of which provide a range of local real ales and delicious food. Guests must have their own car as public transport options are minimal. The Barns are located up a one mile private track which is unsuitable for very low slung vehicles (i.e. supercars...) but does mean you will have complete privacy! Access to both mezzanine levels is via a short but fairly steep staircase, so please bear this in mind if booking with young children.
