A tranquil poolside gite with stunning views
'Les Coquelicots' (The Poppies) is a stunning pool-side gîte with breathtaking views over the valley of the Dordogne river. Sitting amongst 2.5 acres of beautiful gardens (and a putting green!), it's perfect for relaxing, walking and exploring. The gîte is fully equipped - as is the pool - so children can be kept entertained all day either indoors, in the pool or in the vast gardens. Mum can sunbathe poolside on a lounger or inspect the flora and fauna, whilst Dad can work on his short game! Les Coquelicots has a well equipped open plan kitchen, (with electric eye level cooker, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine ), a dining and sitting area with French doors opening onto a decking patio veranda. There is a good sized shower room, a double bedroom with king size double bed and a smaller bedroom with two full size single beds. Both bedrooms have double glazed windows with permanent insect nets fitted, so the gîte is comfortable for two adults and two children or maybe just 3 adults. Les Coquelicots is light and airy, has modern furniture and equipment and we believe we have created a comfortable, restful retreat where you can relax and enjoy your stay in the tranquility of this beautiful part of France. You will have exclusive use of the 10m x 5m swimming pool (open from mid June to mid September, depending on the weather) and large poolside patio area together with a summer awning for much needed shade. There is both French TV and English satellite TV, a DVD player and a CD / Tape player plus free wifi in the gite and poolside. If so inclined you could spend your entire holiday right here. However Les Coquelicots is also ideally placed if you wish to tour the area by car or are active bikers, cyclists, walkers or canoeists. Les Coquelicots is situated in a 2.5 acre garden and not only do you have an excellent view of the huge cliffs which form the banks of the Dordogne river but also within eyesight are the four medieval villages of Carennac, Curemonte, Turenne and Collonges la Rouge, each one designated as a ‘Plus Beaux Village de France’. We live in the main house but we always respect your privacy. You are more than welcome to stroll, play or sit wherever you choose and if you would like to use any of our produce, all we ask is that you ask before you dig or pick. You will have sole use of the solar heated 10x5 metre pool which has a reinforced security cover. Les Coquelicots sits on a ‘puy’ overlooking the tiny medieval village of Queyssac les Vignes, very close to Beaulieu sur Dordogne and overlooking the stunning valley of the Dordogne river. It is at the southern most part of the Correze, in the Limousin, where it borders the Lot department of the Midi Pyrenees. Our village of Queyssac les Vignes is renowned for having six producers of Vin Paillé de Correze (as recommended by Hugh Johnson in his Pocket Wine Book – see page 94) where you may both taste and buy their very special products. Unfortunately there are no longer any shops in the village but a baker, a butcher, small supermarket and a post office are just 6 minutes away down the hill and over the border to Betaille in the Lot Departement, with a larger selection of shops back in the Correze in the very popular holiday resort of Beaulieu – sur – Dordogne, just 10 minutes away via a very ‘curly’ road through delightful woods. The nearest large supermarkets are a further 5 minutes from there, back in the Lot, in Biars sur Cere. There are local train stations at Puybrun and Biars sur Cere. If you have any questions or want advice about places to visit in the area we’ll do our best to help - you will find that we are conveniently placed in the centre of a rough circle bounded by Sarlat-la-Canéda, Cahors, Figeac, Aurillac and Brive-la-Gaillard.
