Check out our new cabins “Lone Oak”and “Teal Corner” listing if this cabin is booked. Eco friendly cabin is a great destination for those seeking relaxation. We are 15mins from Hobbiton movie set Buckland road Matamata. 10 mins from the beautiful TeWaihou blue springs. Wake up to stunning river views from your swinging king size bed, enjoy a “cold one” on the floating pontoon or laze around in one of the hammocks, in the evenings enjoy the ambience of the fire pit or hot tub. We love pets. This “off the grid” cabin has solar lighting, Gas water heating, fridge, USB charge points, 1 king bed, 1 double bed and 1 single bed, basic cooking facilities, BBQ, indoor fire, and outdoor fire and a hot tub. A Review from a satisfied customer: Planning a trip to Hobbiton and looking for Matamata hotels? Finding accommodations in Matamata is a little trickier than expected, simply because the town is very small and rural. You won’t find a Hilton or any other large chain hotel in Matamata. That’s where the fun starts! There are plenty of creative Matamata accommodations to choose from, you just have to know where to look. If you are looking for a hotel in Matamata, I would advise you to reconsider booking a hotel, and instead consider an Airbnb. Matamata (or Hobbiton, as Lord of the Rings aficionados refer to it) is a tiny town located on North Island, New Zealand, and due to the rural setting there aren’t a lot of great hotel options. However, there are plenty of amazing and creative Airbnb’s. One such amazing Airbnb was Kath and Dave’s river cabin. Matamata accommodations We had the privilege of staying at their amazing cabin when we visited in March, and I can’t wait until we can go back. I don’t say that lightly either – I’m normally one to never stay in the same place twice, but I really loved their unique cabin. If you’re looking for accommodations in Matamata, you really can’t go wrong with their place. It’s only 20 minutes to Hobbiton, so it makes an ideal place to stay if you’re looking for places to stay near the Hobbiton movie set. To start with, the entire place is solar powered and eco-friendly. Despite being solar powered, there are still USB charging ports, so no worries about charging your phone. The cabin is part of a fully functional farm, so it was neat to talk to Dave about the farm. He offered to show us their process for milking cows, but sadly we didn’t have enough time. The inside of the cabin is beautiful, with rough hewn wood decorating the space. The suspended king size bed was one of my favorite features. The entire place is rustic, unique, and full of personal touches. The cabin has basic cooking supplies as well as a BBQ, so if you prefer to cook your own food (like I do) there are all the basic necessities you will need. The bathroom is distinctive and beautiful, too. The wood really makes it too. But, my favorite part was the outdoor shower. Showering while looking out at the river was just idyllic. Kath and Dave also provide kayaks and fishing poles, so you can make good use of the river, or simply sit on the covered porch and enjoy the view. The river is literally right outside the cabin, so the view is incredible. 10 out of 10, this place couldn’t be better. If you’re looking for Matamata hotels, this cabin is better than any hotel you could hope to find. (Website hidden by Airbnb) Abundant Wildlife, including ducks, Pukeko, rainbow and brown trout, Opossums and the occasional visit from a seal or two. Activities include, swimming in the cool, clear pristine water, fishing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking or experiencing the operation of a 400cow dairy unit. If there is anything you need from us please call (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Dave or (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Kath. This destination, although hidden away, is only a 5 minute drive from the popular Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel complex and golf course, or the same distance to the well known “Corrugated Creation” town of Tirau. A 10 minute drive to the Te Waihou Blue Springs Walkway, 15 minute drive to Hobitton, and less than an hour from 4 cities; Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua and Lake Taupo. There is a great review to read on the "Travel Hardest" blog. We are 5 minutes from state highway 1. There is a bus stop in Tirau. There is plenty of parking space for large vehicles onsite. The TeWaihou river is 20 meters away from the cabin, small children will need constant supervision. Good outside covered deck for dogs to sleep on and they need to be secured at night.
