Suite "George Sand"-2 bedrms, 1 bath for 7 persons
Our George Sand Suite on the 1st floor is everyone's favourite - with original timber floor, exposed beams & stone walls and a huge bathroom. Located directly above the Living Room it is always cosy and warm in the cooler months while cool in summer. Our Suite George Sand has been created from three of the original hotel bedrooms on the first floor - it is the oldest accommodation area in the former Hotel de la Paix with ancient pine flooring in the living/ dining area and with oak flooring in the two bedrooms and the large, 16m2 ( 172 s.ft) bathroom. It is in this suite that the original stone walls of the old house can still be seen. The first bedroom (25 s.m.) has a French Double Bed and the second bedroom, which is larger, accommodates either Twin Beds or a Super King size bed (the choice of beds to be advised at the time of booking). The second bedroom has a private area with one of the original hotel washbasins dating from 1947. Each room is large enough to fit in another bed if needed bringing the total number of persons that can be accommodated to 6. The bathroom has an expansive walk-in glass shower and two of the hotel's original wash basins along with an antique marble-topped toilette table. In the living area there is a refrigerator along with coffee and tea making facilities (a microwave can be provided upon request). This Suite is directly above the Living Room so gains some of the heat from the fireplace below during the cooler months. As for Le Logis - well, after almost four years of renovations the old Hotel de la Paix with its 18 bedrooms has been turned into a Bed and Breakfast with three suites and two ensuite bedrooms and more than 100 s.m. of public entertaining area on the ground floor. Le Logis is sited just off the village square, right behind the Mairie (Town Hall) and close to the Boulangerie (Bakery), two Bars and a Cinema. Within one minute's walking distance is the Benaize River where our two Restaurants(both of which have bars) are sited - along with the Grocery and Hair Dresser. There is no public transport in La Trimouille but car rental can be arranged at our closest town, Montmorillon, which is about 10 minutes drive away - rental is just 5€/day with 12 centimes per kilometre. Montmorillon is a beautiful Medieval Town with a very old section given over today to all things literary. La Trimouille straddles three regions - Centre, Limousin and Poitou-Charentes and is the ideal location for exploring this historic and very beautiful area of Country France - what we, who live here, refer to as "hidden" France . Cultural sites abound within a 20 minute radius of Le Logis - abbeys, chapels, historic monuments, chateaux and pretty villages. Come and visit this wonderful, unspoilt region of "la France profonde" - the real country France that few tourists ever get to see. B & B Guests at "Le Logis Alexandra" can use the Dining Room as a social area as well as the courtyard (ideal for smokers). Breakfast is complimentary and served between 8 a.m. an 10 a.m. in the Dining Room during the warmer months, or beside the wood burning stove in the Living Room during the cooler months. As much as they want - am around when I'm wanted, otherwise I'm not there! The calm. The safety. The river with the ducks and Mr Goose. The gentleness of village living. The kindness and helpfulness of our villagers. The proximity to everything you'd want to do - - walks through the countryside - visits to everything 10th - 12th century (frescos and churches) and of course - thousands of years earlier (dolmens, menhirs & merovingian burial places............. This is the truly incredible "heartland of France". You definitely need a car (or bike) to get around as there is no public transport system and the taxis really are dear - and have to be prearranged - however as the station is only 15 minutes away I can usually handle pick ups.
