The "Vie de Château" in Burgundy (2-60p)
The spirit of these old stones, restored in their very traditional aspect but with all the modern convenience, will delight all those looking for the old fashioned world of calm, harmony, farm products, great Burgundy wines... and friendship. Château de Messey is a large estate nestled on a hilltop mentioned in IXth Century manuscripts. Its surrounding region grew in importance from the XIth Century, with the widespread construction of abbeys and Romanesque churches, such as those still found in Cluny, Chapaize and Tournus. The Château's two wings face each other across a lovely open courtyard shaded by three 19th century horse chestnut trees. The vaulted cellars and stores have now recovered their original purpose and spirit. Typical of the region, this cluster of buildings is topped by a dovecote tower. Gently rolling below the château, one finds the domaine's farm, a mill along the Natouze stream and the vine workers' cottages. We have fully restored the Château and these houses in their very traditional aspect, yet with all the modern conveniences. Today, the Château main aisle where the tower is located offers 4 large suites with their own bathrooms can accommodate 8 adults and 5 children. A dormitory accessible from the tower bedroom offers 7 additional beds, a double shower and a separate w.c. You need more beds? You can also rent the winegrowers' houses (partially or totally) for up to 60 people. On the ground floor, you will enjoy a large living room with a beautiful fireplace and a large ballroom. The kitchen is equipped accordingly. A small office is also available. Outside, in addition to the beautiful terraces and gardens, the owners invite you to enjoy a heated pool 6x14m, a gym and a sauna / saunarium (on reservation). Muriel will be available to help you to organize your holidays or events. In any case, we will do our best to meet any special requests you may have. With Vanessa, they will be delighted to share with you the history of the area and organize a wine tasting. In addition to many Michelin starred restaurants, the Burgundy countryside has a rich cultural heritage to discover: the Abbey of Tournus, the medieval village of Brancion, Cluny, Cormatin, romanesque churches... The easiest is to have a car that you can park on the site. On the famous wine route, 8 km from Tournus, in the commune of Ozenay you will find Messey on the D14. Tournus train station is 8 km away. The Macon Loche and Le Creusot TGV stations are about 30km away. It takes 1h30 to drive to Lyon airport and 2 hours to Geneva airport. We ask you to smoke outside of buildings, by respect of the other guests. If the castle is not reserved, it is possible to rent rooms separately.
