Your cottage started life as a large cottage accomodating a large family who grew Quince, a fruit high in Pectin, around the early 1900s. We believe they had a contract with the original IXL Jam Factory in Sullivan’s Cove. Pectin was essential for commercial jam manufacturing as a natural setting agent. The orchard was several hectares in area and an original photo shows the Quince trees growing to the waters edge a kilometre away. Though suburbia and commercial development have now encroached, the originality of the cottage has been retained. As well as the last remaining Quince tree. Vehicle use is very friendly with clear access to all of Hobart’s attractions as the cottage exit road meets the Eastern Shores main north-south arterial road. Put simply it is on the Bridges circuit. Directly in the middle; between the northern Bowen Bridge and the southern Tasman Bridge. Public Transport access is simple as bus stops are less than 100 metres away with signed timetable and frequent service. This service allows a 10 minute trip to the main bus hub on the Eastern Shore at Eastlands Shopping Centre, the largest shopping centre in Tasmania. From there you can select a bus to any Bus destination in the Greater Hobart area. Taxi services are available to your door as too are Uber. Centrally located and close to all attractions. Venezia Italian Restaurant is right next door. There is a local fish and chip shop just up the road with a good local reputation and following. There are two large cafes in the area, Spencers or Currency both offering a good value breakfast and of course good coffee. There are two large modern Hotels/Gaming Venues in the area. Hotel Beltana or Risdon Brook Hotel. All are 5 minutes or less away. There is a local Shopping Village in a nearby suburb Lindisfarne. 5 minutes away with a Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, Chinese Restaurant, bakeries and most essential services including a large Doctors Surgery Lindisfarne Clinic. 5 minutes away by vehicle or 10 minutes by bus is Eastlands Shopping Centre the largest in Tasmania. Also McDonalds, KFC, Nando’s, Subway, Coffee Club, Village Cinemas and many local foods and other services.
