Surrounded by wildlife & rolling Somerset hills, yet only 30 min from Bristol, ‘The Cottage’ is tucked away next to our family farmhouse. In this rural pocket of Somerset you’ll find peace, seclusion & tranquility. The Cottage has been lovingly renovated throughout. With comfy beds, wood burner, & cottage garden, you’ll have everything you need for a relaxing stay where you can truly get away from it all. Ideally situated for exploring the West Country & 15 mins from Bristol Airport. A real home from home and far away from any roads, the centuries old stone-built cottage is a beautiful and characterful well-equipped, completely self-contained two bedroom country retreat offering you the perfect rural escape. Ideal as a romantic getaway, family holiday, or base to explore the area, unwind and enjoy a peaceful, relaxing and comfortable stay. As you leave the main road and drive up the private country lane leading to the cottage look out for rabbits, deer, and farm animals as you make your way to your country hideaway. Please note, the lane up to the cottage is bumpy and uneven with loose stone and is not suitable for vehicles with limited ground clearance. Please drive slowly and carefully. - LOUNGE - Set inside a large stone fireplace with oak beam there’s a large welcoming and warming wood burner perfect for putting your feet up in front of after a long walk. Curl up on the comfy 3 seater sofa and watch your favourite shows on the smart tv complete with Blu-ray/DVD player, or relax into the sumptuous armchair and get comfy with a blanket and book. There is central heating throughout the cottage. - KITCHEN - The lounge flows through to the well-equipped cottage kitchen with an antique pine farmhouse table and seating for 4, a double electric oven with grill and 4 hobs, a microwave, DAB radio, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, toaster, and nespresso coffee machine you’ll have everything you’ll need to enjoy a night in, cook up some food and sample some local Somerset produce, perhaps some Wilcox Cider or Cheddar cheese? The Cottage is a real home from home so there’s no need to bring washing up liquid, tin foil, cling film, olive oil, salt, pepper, tea bags, sugar, herbs and spices etc as it’s all provided for you. - GARDEN - From the kitchen, wander outside through the French doors into the private cottage garden and soak up the rural views across the paddock and beyond. With a table and chairs, and charcoal BBQ, the patio is the perfect spot for al fresco meals and is a real sun trap in the summer months. Whilst the sun sets over the paddock cuddle up by the chiminea in candlelight and enjoy an evening out under the stars as you listen to the nearby owls in the trees and see the badgers scurry past. Wander down to the end of the paddock where you’ll be rewarded with views across the Bristol Channel and beyond to Wales where you can see across the water to Cardiff and the Brecon Beacons on a clear day. - UPSTAIRS - After an adventurous day, retire upstairs where there are two comfortable bedrooms and a bathroom which has a sink, loo, heated towel rail, and a modern shower over a large bath. The master bedroom has a high ceiling with centuries-old exposed beams. Sink into the lovely comfy king sized bed for a peaceful nights sleep, and wake up to views out over the front garden. In the second bedroom there’s a built-in single bed and (if requested prior to arrival) we can also provide a pull-out single mattress on the floor so bedroom 2 can accommodate 2 children, or 2 adults. - PARKING - The cottage has private off-road parking in the driveway of the main farmhouse, with just a short stroll through the front garden to the cottage door. - WILDLIFE - There’s a wealth of countryside and wildlife on the doorstep. We often see foxes, badgers, rabbits, tawny owls, woodpeckers and occasionally deer (not forgetting our friendly cats and dogs of course!). The West Mendip Way is quite literally a stone’s throw from the front door so you’ll be spoilt for choice for delightful countryside walks, and rambles. - EXTRA ACCOMMODATION - We also have a 5m bell tent available to hire (see photos) which can be booked in conjunction with the cottage as part of your stay. Choose to have it pitched outside the cottage, or at the end of the paddock to enjoy the fabulous sunsets and views across the Bristol Channel towards Wales. The bell tent is available for a cost of £30 per night based on a bring your own bedding/camping gear basis. Ideal for an adventure for the kids... or a snoring husband! - SAFETY - The cottage has 2 carbon monoxide detectors, a mains linked smoke detector, a fire blanket in the kitchen and a basic first aid kit. Don’t forget to bring your slippers and wellies :) ! —————————— -NEARBY- The stunning Cheddar Gorge and caves is a 10 minute drive away and offers tea rooms, ice creams, crazy golf, and plenty of eateries. There is a beautiful circular walk around the top of the gorge and many other walks and places to explore. Weston-Super-Mare with its sandy beach is a scenic 25 minute drive away from the cottage. Visit the famous pier, amusements and enjoy fish and chips on the beach. If you’re a keen walker, the medieval town of Axbridge can be reached within an hour by following the West Mendip Way and dropping down the hill into the town. With its picturesque square, thirteenth century church and fine timber-framed Tudor buildings such as King John’s Hunting Lodge, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. There’s also a farmers market here on the first Saturday of every month. Axbridge is not to be missed. The beautiful city of Wells is just a 30 minute drive away and boasts the stunning Bishop’s Palace and magnificent Wells Cathedral which must be seen. There are many eateries, cafes, and independent shops and it’s a great place for a day trip. Wells has a fantastic market in the Square every Saturday; with lots of local produce it’s highly recommended! -THINGS TO DO - Cheddar Gorge and Caves Wookey Hole Thatchers Cider Tour Fleet Helicopter Museum Puxton Park Glastonbury Tor and Abbey Wells Cathedral and Bishops Palace Horse riding (Shipham riding) Mountain biking Climbing ...and lots more! The cottage is next to our family home, so we’re usually on hand should you need us. Other than that we’ll leave you to it to get settled in, make yourselves at home and relax! The cottage is tucked away far from main roads nestled next to our family farmhouse along a bridle way in the Mendips Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a farmhouse cafe just a 10 minute walk down the lane serving hearty breakfasts and lunches and an array of country pubs serving fine ales and food in the area. The beautiful city of Wells (the UK’s smallest city), Glastonbury with its famous Tor and festival, and the National Trust coast at Brean Down are all within 15 miles. Weston super Mare with its sandy beaches and seaside activities is 25 minutes away. Exeter and Bath are both a leisurely day trip away. The cottage is easily accessible from the A38 and is a 15 minute drive from Bristol airport. Please be aware that the lane from the main road to the cottage is an unmade road (bridleway) of about half a mile so please drive carefully. Please note as we are lucky enough to live very rurally surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside, the lane up to the cottage is an unmade road (bridle way) and is bumpy and uneven with lose stone so please drive slowly and carefully. Unfortunately we can not accept any liability for damage to vehicles accessing the cottage.
