The owners have a separate house on the property and there is a second gîte "La Ferme" that, like this one, is an independent building that does not interfere with guests privacy. Description Interior The gîte was renovated in 2011 and it is a bright and airy, spacious, 200 year old, two storey, brick and slate roofed stable and farm-wagon garage. Entry is from a paved terrace into the main living area which has the kitchen, dining and sitting areas. The main bedroom is located on the ground floor and has an en-suite bathroom with shower and lavatory. There is also a second bathroom with bath and lavatory. The second bedroom is on the first floor and has two single beds. There is a mezzanine reading area and separate lavatory. D-Day disembarkation beaches. Sight seeing, Honfleur historic and picturesque harbour village is 20 kilometres, William the Conqueror's castles at Falaise and at Caen; Heritage villages at Beaumont-en-Auge and Beuvron-en-Auge are nearby; Historic sights, chateaux and abbeys, Bayeux tapestry and cathedral. WWII museums. Horse riding is available from stables just minutes away by car. Rouen, Mont St Michel and Monet's garden at Giverny are ideal day trips. Paris and the Palace of Versailles are possible in a day with an early start. In the neighbourhood (max 30 minutes by car): swimming, golf, walking, mountain-biking, horse riding, canoeing. Restaurants, food & wine This is Calvados! Restaurants abound in the local towns of Deauville, Trouville, Houlgate, Cabourg, Dives-sur-Mer, Villers-sur-Mer and Pont L'Eveque. Other restaurants are available in the surrounding villages. Daily French produce markets are within easy driving distance in different towns and villages. Regional cheeses include Pont L' Eveque, Livarot and Camembert. A well known Pont L' Eveque producer is only 2 kilometers. The region is famous for its Cider and Calvados production. Distilery visits are popular with guests. Local restaurants range from traditional French cuisine through sea-food specialists to international cuisine. Other remarks The French and English speaking owners have managed the gîte on this site for over 20 years and have many returning guests. Parking for 2 or more cars. Guests have unrestricted use of the child's swing and access to the gardens, lawns and small orchard. The owners live in a separate house on the site. They are there to meet and greet and are ready to help with advice on local activities, directions, restaurant, horse riding and golf reservations. The area is quiet and secluded. Walking or cycling in the lanes is a pleasure. The nearby beaches and zoos have proved popular with guests. Guests need their own transport. Car parking spaces are provided within the grounds and close to the front door of the gîte. Depending on the whims of the chickens, new-laid, free-range eggs are usually available for purchase at 2€ for 6. The owners cat is kept at their house fifty metres away. Feeding of the donkey and chickens is encouraged. They are very good at recycling kitchen scraps.
