Bigbury on Sea - sea views, a stroll from beach
Perfect year round spot for holidaymakers, dog walkers and anyone looking to work from a home from home, with fantastic sea views, moments from the wonderful beaches of Bigbury-on-Sea. Marashina is a light, peaceful, 3 bedroom detached bungalow with a large hall, lounge/diner (with open fire), well equipped kitchen, large conservatory/games room, strong wi fi throughout, back and front gardens, including a large patio at the front, summer house, ample parking and large utility area. The master bedroom (king size bed) has lovely rural and sea views (you can sea the sea from bed!) and an ensuite shower room and is reached by a door from the entrance hall. It also has patio doors leading to the large conservatory. The room has a desk and chair positioned in the window, two chests of drawers, a wardrobe, a full length mirror and a hair dryer. Bedroom two (king size bed) is next to the master bedroom, is reached from the hall and also has access into the conservatory. It has a large chest of drawers, a full length mirror with hanging space behind, bedside tables and a hair dryer. Bedroom three (also reached from the hall) is a perfect room for children with bunk beds (and an extra trundle bed underneath) and has a patio door leading out into the back garden. It has a chest of drawers and a bed side table. The large, very light conservatory is used as a games room and has a small sized pool table (for kids), tv and dvd player, nintendo wii, darts board and various toys (including a dolls house, lego, arts and crafts box etc). The kitchen (leading from the hall) is well equipped with everything you should need for your stay including dishwasher, fridge freezer, nespresso machine. The utility area (not heated), reached from the kitchen, has a washing machine and tumble drier, table football and plenty of space for drying and storing clothes, shoes and beach equipment. It also has doors outside to both the front and the back of the property (very handy when coming back from the beach covered in sand). The lounge/diner (accessed from the hall and the kitchen) has an open fire, wonderful sea views, two sofas, coffee table, dining table and six chairs plus bench, a large smart TV and DVD player (with selection of dvds), desk, telephone, Bose speaker and patio doors leading out onto the large patio with fabulous views over to Burgh Island and the surrounding coastline. The main bathroom (reached from the hall) has a bath and separate shower. There is also a separate toilet in the utility area. At the back of the property there is a summer house sitting on a raised patio. This is not heated and has no electricity but does currently house a single bed and trundle as our kids love to have sleep overs out there in the summer. We also sometimes use it for more tranquil home working (when the kids are around). There is plenty of outdoor furniture, a weber (charcoal) BBQ and a rather fun fire pit which is great for those chillier, summer evenings. Baby equipment available includes high chair, bouncy chair, travel cot, bath mat, plastic crockery and sippy cups, blender, steriliser, sun tent for beach. One well behaved dog is welcome but we ask that they do not go in the bedrooms or on the furniture. Guests can access and use the whole property except the garage. We do not live locally but we have family living closeby. If you have any queries about the property or the area while staying, feel fee to get in touch. Originally from the area, we now live further afield (with our two young boys) but still enjoy spending a lot of our holiday time at Marashina. As soon as we pass the "Welcome to Bigbury on Sea" sign on arrival we sigh and immediately relax. We love a trip to the Oyster Shack for a family friendly, high quality fish supper. We also enjoy the fantastic coastal walks (especially the Farmer's Loop direct from the door and the coastal walk from Bantham to Hope Cove). We love the paddle boarding and kayaking (especially early morning for breakfast on Bantham beach), surfing (the surf school is great for all ages and you can also hire paddle boards, surf boards and kayaks from there) and just hanging out on the beach either relaxing or enjoying a morning run and playing rugby or football with the boys. There’s nothing quite like a pint or a Salcombe G&T on Burgh Island at the historic Pilchard Inn. In the summer the Oyster Shack now serves up culinary delights (like lobster salad) on the beach and the mobile baristas serve local coffee and delicious home made brownies. When we fancy a day trip we enjoy pottering around Kingsbridge, Dartmouth or Salcombe. We love it all whatever the weather! Look A car is essential to get to Bigbury on Sea but once you’ve arrived, there is plenty to keep you in the area and lots of stunning coastal walks (many incorporating a lovely local pub). There is a handy beach shop stocking everything you need for the beach, a take away cafe (Venus) next to the surf school, the Pilchard Inn on Burgh Island and various other options at the nearby Challaborough camp site (open from April) including a well stocked campsite shop for essentials like bread and milk, a beachside fish and chip takeaway, a beachside pub with pool table serving food (all within easy walking distance). Please contact host to ask about short stays. We often get a Tesco order delivered for our arrival but the (recently extended) grocery store (Holywell Stores) at St Ann’s Chapel (5 mins drive) served us well enough on our last week long visit.
