DOGs- are welcome but there is a charge of £25 p. dog, p. week, or £40 for x2 dogs. Otherwise it's £5 p. dog p. night. We tend to limit dogs to x2 maximum. Please keep dogs off the furniture, clean up after them and provide them with their own beds and other doggy-kit, plus a towel to dry them off after a wet walk. There is ample parking for two cars outside the property on the street side, but accommodation for others can be found along the lane or, by arrangement, in our forecourt. We always love meeting guests, but respect the fact that you may be looking for a quiet escape. If you're planning an extended stay then we can make arrangements for clean linen and a cleaner as necessary. If babysitting is required, we can also introduce you to some friendly locals, but it's a good idea to give as much notice as possible. Also if you do have little ones, then we are happy to provide toys, games, books, DVD's etc. We tend to limit the number of dogs to a maximum of two, but we're open to discussion. There is also a charge of £25 p. dog, p. week, or £40 for x2 dogs. Otherwise it's £5 p. dog p. night. Please note our rates are more during the holidays, Easter, Christmas, New Year and Glastonbury (which is 20 min away) "Batcombe is dream England. It is a place you would be happy to reach by chance at the end of a long day’s journeying." (Candida Lycett Green, journalist.) It's a small and friendly village, very much off the beaten track. But local events are often on the cards: tastings at Westcombe cheese and Wild Beer in neighbouring Westcombe, cricket up at the recently renovated village pitch, or monkeying about with the kids in the excellently renovated playground - great for all ages and equipped with football pitch and cricket nets in addition to swings, play-fort and zip wire. Wonderful walks stretch far and wide in every direction straight from your doorstep: endless footpaths roam over the Mendip hills, with views across to Glastonbury Tor and beyond, or you can wander along the valley, following the river Alham. Batcombe is about ten miles from the A303, three miles from the A371, and just one mile from the A359. It's normally about 2 - 2.5 hours drive from London via M3 / A303, an hour from Bristol, and 45 minutes from Bath. The local train stations are Bruton (3 miles), Castle Cary (6 miles) and Frome (9 miles). Wincanton (8 miles) also provides good coach services. Bristol airport is approximately 25 miles away (45 minutes by car). Some people want to come and escape, others to explore. As mentioned, the local town, Bruton, is only 3 miles away - If you're a 'foodie' then there's the acclaimed At The Chapel, which is child-friendly and in addition to more sophisticated fare, their home-fired pizzas and bakery are second to none. Also Matt's Kitchen might only be a small venue, run from his own house, but it's well worth a visit. It's a limited but highly imaginative menu that's sourced from local suppliers and markets - Matt never fails to amaze his guests, and you can bring your own bottle(s). As with At The Chapel, booking is advised. If you're a 'culture-vulture' then Hauser & Wirth seem to have the art world buzzing with their recently opened, Bruton-based, world class gallery and multi purpose arts centre and gardens. Meanwhile Bruton's high street is amok with quirky antique & interiors shops. Other local attractions include The Mill on the Brue activity centre, Longleat Safari Park, Stourhead House and Gardens, Stonehenge, Glastonbury Tor and Festival, The Bath & West Showground, Wookey Hole Caves & Cheddar Gorge. Slightly further afield lie Bristol and Bath, and to the south is the wonderful Jurassic coastline and Chesil beach.
