You know that smell that happens when rain falls on dry, warm earth on a Summer’s day? That’s called ‘Petrichor’. Honestly… if you don’t believe us, (Hidden by Airbnb) it! And this is Petrichor in Bantham- much like the scent itself, hard to describe in words but we’re going to try… Petrichor sleeps 4 people in two double bedrooms. The house itself has been completely modernised and decorated to a very high standard by the current owner, designed to make the most of the truly breath-taking views. This house is not just about the views. That would be doing a disservice to the house itself, but the views really are special, and in our opinion, quite easily some of the best views within the South Hams. You can enjoy breakfast looking out over the river or towards Burgh Island itself, and you need to be careful that you don’t just spend your holiday breathing in this view. The house is located in the village of Bantham. If you don’t know about Bantham, it’s one of the most beautiful beaches within South Devon. Unlike many beaches around, Bantham is a sandy beach, and also happens to be one of the best surfing locations on the South Coast of Devon or Cornwall! You can even have hire the equipment and book surf lessons on the beach, and then when finished, stroll back to the car park where you can grab a bite-to-eat from the ‘gastro-bus’… This is takeaway food from the back of a van like you’ve never experienced before! After returning to Petrichor, and washing off the wetsuits and boards in the outdoor heated shower, if you still have energy you can stroll down the road to ‘The Sloop Inn’- a 14th century village pub where you’re guaranteed a warm welcome. If you don’t fancy dining out, you could always pop next door to the village shop, grab something to eat and dine in whilst enjoying the views- very few restaurants have views like this, so why not? The village shop doubles as a café and really is the hub of Bantham, the heart of the village The house even comes with private parking for up to 2 vehicles, and it’s quite possible you’ll need that parking because once you’re settled in, it’s unlikely you’ll want to be driving that far! Parking is notoriously difficult in Bantham, but we have private parking just for you, meaning you can easily park the car up and leave it there all week! The house is managed by a local housekeeper who is on hand to assist with any emergencies should they arise. Bantham is a very special little village. The beach is sandy and one of the best surf spots on the south coast. The village pub really is very special. The village cafe and shop are the hub of the village- and this is next door! There is a 'gastro-bus; in the beach car park during the Summer months which offers the most amazing take out food. There are amazing walks all around, but you'll need a vehicle to access Bantham. BBQ’s are not allowed in this property. You can bring an electric griddle if you’d like, but we have an agreement with our neighbours that we will not use BBQs at Petrichor.
