Come experience Downeast Maine with no other tourists. Park on a private road & it’s an easy 1/4 mile walk to your site. Have a canoe?We’re surrounded by lakes. Machias River Corridor with 76 miles of canoe trails, is 6 miles east. Feel like a hike? Nearby Lead Mountain provides a short yet challenging ascent. Or choose to relax at the site with approximately 17 acres and a stream to yourself. (Not swimmable) Come during blueberry season & pick from our 6 acre patch. Once you park, you will see a woods road to the right. Follow the road about 1/4 mile and you will run into the site. Continue on the road another 100 feet or so to find your privacy shelter and shower area. Continue another 1/4 mile to find yourself at a private stream, with ample water birds for viewing. There is no wifi at the site, but you can get some cell service up the road a bit in front of our house. We live about 500 feet past the parking area in a cabin. The tent has a queen sized bed with linens, blanket and two pillows. There is a solar lantern and some solar string lights that can be charged each day. There is a firepit with a grill and some basic grilling tools and a couple of pots and pans. Also some camping plates, bowls, mugs and utensils. We will provide a two gallon water cooler with potable water that we can refill if needed and a cooler for your food. There is a flat area just down the path which is suitable for a second tent. You should bring: Binoculars! Our property is a playground for birds and wildlife. Local firewood! Or buy some from us at $5 a bundle. Whatever you need to cook/make coffee. We provide individual cup pour over makers, but you will need to provide a coffee cup and boil up some water. Food Ice Bug spray — this is the forest in Maine in the summer. Flashlight or headlamp Upon check out you should leave no trace of your stay aside from dirty linens. Solar shower can be filled in the stream or we can fill for you. It will be filled when you arrive. It will need to stay in the sun during the day to heat, and we have a hook on a designated tree to hang. Please note!! Places in Maine can appear closer than they actually are. Here are some drive times from our place to some popular Maine destinations: 6 miles to Machias River Corridor. Several lakes within a couple of miles, will provide you with a guide upon arrival. 1/2 hour to Cherryfield. 45 minutes to: Milbridge, Machias, Calais, Moosehead National Wildlife Refuge 1 hour to: Grand Lake Stream, Bangor, Ellsworth, Tide Mill Farm, Bold Coast hike in Cutler 1 1/2 hours to: Acadia, Bar Harbor, Deer Isle, Belfast, Lubec, Eastport We live a mile down a private gravel road. The parking area is well marked. Once you park, you will be directly in front of a woods road to the right. Walk down that road approximately 1/4 mile, and the campsite will greet you. We live about 500 feet past the parking area on the main road. The campsite is down our woods road, and you won't see or hear us unless you want to. In front of our house is a cell signal and we've got the wild blueberries and the water, so you may choose to come up...but we will leave you alone unless otherwise indicated. This is not a party space. It is a quiet, magical place to take time for yourself and get away from it all. You won't see us...or anyone...unless you want to.
