Check out the quirky townships of Kandos and Rylstone, explore the Wollemi National Park and Gungaddy Reserve, explore the fine wine and gourmet food regions locally and around Mudgee, travel north along the scenic Bylong Valley Way or west to the historic gold mining towns of Sofala and Hill End or just amble down the local main streets and pop into a cool cafe or restaurant . THE BOWERS HIDEOUT is a small, studio style, free standing bungalow. It has recently been totally refurbished so it is fresh, clean and ready for guests. The property is situated on a very large double block with great views looking up to the Coomber Melon Mountain often with drifting fog and mist. The bungalow is fully self contained with well equipped kitchenette and en suite bathroom . We are about a 3 minute walk to a well stocked supermarket and liquor store for supplies and is very convenient for last minute supplies. The Bowers Hut is of solid block ash construction so well insulated from noise and the elements and the air con will keep you toasty warm in winter and cool in summer. Many of our guests are happy to disconnect from the digital world at night but we have broadband wifi, Netflix and a number of foreign/entertainment/news channels plus regular broadcast channels if you want some screen time at night. There is secure off street parking available for guests with 24 hour check in available. Our guests are always varied. Some like to chat and interact while others appreciate a bit of space. Either way we are happy to have you as guests and will be of any assistance we can. Kandos was until recently the home of the 'Kandos Cement' mill which is still standing right on the outskirts of town. If you have seen or been on the Sydney Harbour Bridge you can thank Kandos for supplying the cement that went into building that plus half of Sydney. Kandos today is a mix of retired workers from the mill, others who were born and grew up locally and a range of 'blow ins' like myself; loosely described as people escaping the city life for the country. The good thing about country towns is that unlike cities which people love or hate, many only living there for employment opportunities, most people that live in country towns like living there and chose to live there. Generally you'll need your own vehicle to explore the area. There is a daily bus that connects with the Sydney rail system at Lithgow. The bus can take two bicycles if you book ahead. Call transport info line on 131 500 for more info. If you like cycling it is a great place to park the car and head off on two wheels and explore the area. There is a great cycle lane between Kandos and Rylstone (about 7 kilometers) which is separated from the highway with some great photo opportunities of the rural area and views back to the ol' Coomber Melon mountain. A great way to work up and appetite and eat in Rylstone before pedaling back. For those driving Kandos is a great base for Gunguddy reserve, Wollemi National Park, Bylong Valley, historic Sofala and Hill End, the Mudgee fine wine and food region and all the rural centres west.
