'Heddfan' (Peaceful place) is a spacious, detached home in secure mature gardens, on the edge of the picturesque Pembrokeshire village of Mathry. The village offers a cosy local pub, the Farmer's Arms, a popular café and a network of pretty rural lanes that extend to the coastal path. It is also on the Coastal shuttle-bus route. The nearest harbour, Abercastle, is a pretty village, used by fishing and sailing boats. Nearby Abermawr woods offer a wonderful walk to the secluded beach. Heddfan offers extensive downstairs accommodation including; a large kitchen/diner with 'farmhouse' table at one end and units at the other (with cooker, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, etc); a spacious sun room; a family lounge with TV & DVD, a second lounge (the 'cwtsh') for cosy games and chats with TV & DVD; an utility room with washing machine and a cloakroom & WC. Upstairs offers 3 double bedrooms, including a 'master' bedroom with a Superking size bed and leather armchair + en suite bath, shower & WC, and a family bathroom with shower & WC. Outside are several lawn/decked areas and ample parking for 3 cars. Heddfan is surrounded by walls, with secure gates at the front. Both owner and caretaker live within Pembrokeshire and are contactable by mobile phone. We are happy to stay to check guests in if required, as agreed. The local café serves wonderful breakfasts and lunches, and the pub provides dinners and Sunday lunch. Walk (or take a short drive) in almost any direction to discover beautiful countryside or beaches (details available), including an ancient monument (Carreg Samson), wonderful wildlife, wildflowers, woodlands, agriculture, farm animals and leisure opportunities. Slightly further afield is Tregwynt Woollen Mill, Strumble Head Lighthouse, Fishguard Bay's town and villages, St David's Cathedral, Porthgain Harbour (with its excellent restaurant and galleries), Abereiddy's 'Blue Lagoon', the Gwaun Valley, the Preseli Hills and Llys Y Fran Dam. Plus many gardens, artists' galleries and other tourist attractions too numerous to list. Traffic is light, so driving around is simple. But take care on narrow roads, in case of livestock, walkers or horse-riders. A good OS map and/or SatNav is recommended for exploring the area fully. The coastal shuttle bus passes through the village (check times), connecting Mathry with other villages and coastal path walks. Taxis can be obtained locally, and trains run from Fishguard Harbour (6 miles away) to London. Details of some recommended walking routes are in the house, and online at the Pembrokeshire National Park website, etc.
