RELAX from pressures of the modern world...Nature!
Feel the peace the moment you arrive. Hear the birds; stand under 100-year-old trees, as the light filters through the canopy of native bush. Splash in the rivers. Gather watercress... and other herbs for health. Walk up the tracks, or make your own track, and find your special spot. Sit on your private verandah with a peacock. Know that you are loved... at Tira Ora. Visit the glowworm caves; swim in the phosphorescence on summer nights; call and hear the echo bouncing off the hills; play! Tira Ora is composed of 14 buildings, including luxury chalets, historic lodge, Clubhouse and bunkhouse. These buildings are powered by our own hydro-electric scheme. Buildings are located within the bush, gardens, creeks, rocky beach and bay. The historic lodge offers a venue for special occasions - daywear attire is resort casual, dressing up for dinner at 8pm. Homestyle meal packages are offered from $75 per day. The Tira Ora Clubhouse is a spacious open-plan venue with fully-equipped kitchen, stage, musical instruments, lounge and dining room. This is a casual-dress venue, self-catering, where you may find fishermen cooking their catch of the day. Cosy up to the fire, either coal range or wood-stove. The Clubhouse has been the venue for cultural exchange of people from 30 countries over the last 22 years. You are always on the brink of a song or dance at the Clubhouse. These buildings are surrounded by 550 acres of hills and dales where you will undoubtedly find your own special places in nature. Tira Ora's clear and dark skies make stargazing a particular feature: our resident astronomer can introduce and explain the southern night sky. Hosts can be contacted by phone or Messenger (we will be on-site, but the property is large with many interesting places to visit). Tira Ora is a bay-front property with a long jetty for fishing, a floating jetty and a mooring. The bay is usually fairly quiet except around the holidays and summer weekends. Our neighbours and holiday-makers enjoy their boats, fishing, water-skiing and jet-skiing. Sailboats and kayakers pass by. Our land is a horseshoe-shape surrounding Tiraora Bay. The flat land near the shore hosts native bush, shrubs and flower gardens, providing year-round nourishment for native birds and our resident honey bees. A camellia garden, century-old towering trees, ancient nikau stands and a kawakawa forest complete the scene in which you will be living. There is easy walking access to all of these but, for the more adventurous, the hills offer great views, stands of old-growth forest, and fern-filled valleys, including majestic waterfalls in winter. From sunrise till star-studded nights you will enjoy the magnificence of Tira Ora. Tira Ora is located in the Pelorus Sound, top of the South Island, New Zealand. You can get to us by sea or by air. By Sea: If you don't have your own boat, you can take the Pelorus Mailboat service from Havelock Marina that runs every Wednesday to and from Tira Ora, and most other days of the week on request. (Hidden by Airbnb) "themailboat". By Air, direct to Tira Ora's private airfield: If you don't have your own plane, Pelorus Air can look after you. (Hidden by Airbnb) "pelorus air".
