Yellow Cottage El Dorado Van Gogh Inspired
Yellow Cottage is an original brick miner's cottage set in the rural village of El Dorado. Featuring two bedrooms, a queen size bed and two singles, a large living/dining area with open fire, dual system central heating/air-conditioning and a freestanding kitchen. Authentic country style bathroom and laundry. The cottage is located close to the centre of the village, within walking distance to the Tavern and General Store. Beechworth, Wangaratta, Milawa are all within an easy 25 minute drive. Yellow Cottage is an original brick cottage built in 1870, renovated in a comfortable provincial style. The interior reflects the owner’s artistic sense of design inspired by Van Gogh’s “Yellow House”. The interior has striking painted walls hung with original art works. Together with a terrazzo-tiled floor, a marble fire place surround, Murray pine ceilings, that includes chandeliers and unique light fittings. Inside It has an eclectic mix of furniture. decked out with a comfortable sofa, two arm chairs, an antique dinning table with six chairs. The ornate mirror is the signature piece in the open plan dinning and lounge area. The cottage includes the comfort of an open fire for the winter months only as well as central heating and cooling. It features a country kitchen that still has the original old wood stove in it and a sink that has three taps, as the brass one in the middle is for rainwater. There are two bedrooms; one with a queen size bed -the second has two single beds to suit both couples and families, sleeping up to four people. All bed linen and towels provided. The cottage has an authentic farmhouse style bathroom with a shower over the bath and a laundry with iron and washing machine. Yellow Cottage is surrounded by a large Mediterranean-inspired garden that has large terracotta pots with geraniums and cumquats. Pencil pines, hedges of rosemary, paved areas and paths of stone and brick. In the yard there is an old steel bladed windmill and out the back is an old fig tree. The old wire gate leads to the surrounding small historic farm. The almond orchard, olive and fruit trees create a feeling of Tuscany or Provence. Depending on the changing season’s guests can experience the almond blossom or garlic growing in the paddock. The village of El Dorado is renowned for its picturesque hills, valleys and glimpses of its gold mining past, situated on Reedy Creek, adjacent to Mount Pilot National Park. Pack yourself a picnic basket before heading off from the centre of town. Follow a well used dirt road suitable for two wheel drive, through the Woolshed Valley to Beechworth with ten story boards highlighting interesting pause points to stop and read along the way. Pause point signs include the Kelly caves, Aaron Sherritt’s hut site, and the Woolshed school where Joe Byrne and Aaron Sherritt attended. For travellers there is easy access from the Hume Highway and the Great Alpine Road. Nearby is the Milawa Gourmet and Rutherglen region, renowned for world-class wineries and gourmet food, as well is the historic towns of Beechworth, Chiltern and Bright providing the visitor with a multitude of cultural and outdoor experiences. There is McEvoy Tavern and the General Store, El Dorado pottery Firebox Bakery - open weekends, and El Dorado Museum a short walk away. Yellow Cottage offers a unique alternative for those seeking a tranquil and comfortable stay in the countryside. Guests have full use of Yellow Cottage and the gardens. They may wander down the lane-way to the creek. If Don and Vera are home they are happy for visitors to see the art studio, farm gate shop and farm, time permitting. If we're available we're happy to show you around, otherwise the cottage and immediate gardens are for guests enjoyment. El Dorado is a unique small rural village with a past mining history. Peaceful and quiet with beautiful landscape that will inspire the artist within. Enjoy easy access to Reedy Creek and Mt. Pilot National Park for picnics, cycling and village walks. You will need your own transportation while staying in El Dorado. Bike riding is easy as it's close to ride to any of the legs on the Murray to the Mountains Bike Trail. See Rail Trail Booklet in the cottage. Beechworth has a bike hire store, it's a downhill ride from Beechworth to El Dorado. We supply a Portable Tool Kit you can take with on your ride, a Bicycle Repair Tool Set and Bicycle Repair Stand: Certified cycle friendly business. Please note, the cottage has an independent water supply, we are not on town water - powered by an electric pump from an underground bore. You will receive an allocation of wood for your stay during winter months for a couple of fires during your stay. Winter months ( May - September). Please consider conserving our natural resources. El Dorado is situated on the fringe of the National Park so please be aware of native fauna and flora species. Enjoy our natural surrounds.
