Burrow Cottage
Burrow Cottage is one of the oldest properties in a charming waterside village that was once a favourite haunt of local smugglers. This 300-year-old property allows guests to explore the stunning south Devon coast while staying in the lap of luxury. Burrow has its own 'secret' secluded garden where you can soak up the sun or dine together al fresco. And with its country-style kitchen, generous lounge/diner, classic decor and comfy beds, it's a brilliant base for any holiday at any time of year. The cottage comes equipped with everything you would expect in a home from home, from flatscreen TVs and a washer/dryer to underfloor heating and all the usual kitchen appliances. Exclusive art adorns the walls, there is a traditional fireplace, generous storage space for clothes and luggage and two large sofas that are ideal for those times when you simply fancy lounging around the house. There is a farmhouse table for family dining if you don't fancy eating outside in the secluded garden. We live just a 30-second walk from the cottage and so can be as hands-on or hands-off as our guests prefer. Access is via a keysafe located by the front door, but we will always be on hand to answer questions face-to-face. It is Burrow Cottage's location that makes it such a perfect starting point for all sorts of great getaways. It sits right on the South West Coast Path and Exe Trail Cycle Path and is less than a mile away from the sandy beach at Dawlish Warren, which has just won its 20th annual Blue Flag for cleanliness and safety. Cockwood itself boasts two welcoming village pubs, the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site is just a ferry ride away in Exmouth and the historic city of Exeter a short train trip up the estuary. There are also a whole host of nearby family activities, from canoe and bike hire to go-karting, rides, a variety of beaches and coves, a traditional pier, small zoo and no fewer than three mini-golf courses and four swimming pools all within a three-mile radius. Cockwood is superbly connected to the outside world with a steady stream of trains and buses available to take you on your travels around the Devon countryside. The village is just 15 minutes' drive from the end of the M5 motorway and there are also regular passenger ferries that criss-cross their way across the Exe Estuary to and from Exmouth and Topsham. We welcome dogs to Burrow Cottage, especially in the 'off' season when they can use the entire beach at Dawlish Warren. There are walks galore in the immediate vicinity including at the impressive new Dawlish Countryside Park less than a mile away.
