Our early settlers cottage was constructed circa 1860s in the State heritage listed town of Mintaro. The original cottage consisted of just two rooms with a lean-to containing rudimentary bathroom and kitchen facilities and of course the "long drop dunny" down the back of the property. There is heritage listed stable complex comprising of three tack rooms built of local slate and stone. Our cottage was originally a part of a larger property and was the entrance to the historic fire engine museum. In the 1990s "The Lolly Shop" traded at the front of the premises hence the name of the B&B. It is reported that the only Australian female survivor of the Titanic, Eleanor Marsden lived in this dwelling. Eleanor survived in Lifeboat 16 on that fateful day and died in Sydney in 1936. The Olde Lolly Shop is ideally situated walking distance to all that Mintaro has to offer. The Magpie and Stump Hotel is directly down the road and open seven days a week for meals. Friday nights is a great time to come in and meet the locals and enjoy a glass of wine and talk about the history of Mintaro. The Mintaro Maze is a fun place to visit with the family on weekends and school holidays. Splinters and Steel is an eclectic and interesting gift shop where you can also enjoy a coffee. It is open on the weekends. Mintaro is surrounded by wineries and eating places and it is a short 17km drive to the major centre of the Clare Valley We are always happy to share our local knowledge on dining out, activities and places to go. We also encourage guests to ask if there is anything at all they require and we will do our best to accommodate them. Telstra is the only carrier which works successfully indoors...others work outside.
