Highlands Cottage is a detached, stone built converted stable with lots of rural charm and set in a beautiful apple orchard. It is tastefully converted; sleeps 4 and has a well equipped kitchen and open plan dining/living area, plus a walk in shower room. The South-facing patio has beautiful views across the valley, perfect for enjoying a meal. Free parking and good wifi. Numerous walks from the door, to pubs, forests and the River Wye. Short drive to Monmouth and lots of visitor attractions. Highlands Cottage is the perfect rural retreat for a couple or family. We are surrounded by woodland and a short walk to the River Wye. The cottage sits in our apple orchard, and on our 2 acre small holding. We make our own cider and apple juice. We welcome you with fresh hen's eggs and home-made organic bread. The cottage has a double bed and bunks. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, fridge freezer, microwave and plenty of crockery and cooking equipment. The dining area seats four, and is also a lap-top friendly space (with fast, free wifi). The sitting area has two double sofas, TV, DVD player and coffee table. The spacious, walk in wet room has a shower, toilet and sink. Outside there is a South-facing patio with table and chairs, reclining chairs and a fire bowl. Guests are free to enjoy our smallholding; there are trees to climb, a rope swing and spectacular views. We have a small campsite with approximately 10 pitches. Guests have exclusive use of the detached cottage and are welcome to enjoy the gardens and orchard. There is free parking right outside the door. We are available if you need us, but leave you plenty of privacy. Our house is on the same plot so we are on hand if you have any questions. The cottage is set well away from our house so you feel very private and have plenty of your own space. We are 15 minutes from from the charming market town of Monmouth, with lovely independent shops and restaurants. Several pubs are 30 mins to one hour's woodland and riverside walk from the cottage and a village shop at an hour's walk. We are surrounded by miles and miles of wonderful walking country. Host Louise is a keen walker and can advise on numerous walks, taking in forests, the River Wye, pubs and historic sites. There are numerous visitor attractions a short drive from Highlands Cottage, including: canoeing on the River Wye, graded mountain bike tracks, 6 castles, Tintern Abbey, Puzzlewood ancient forest, Symonds Yat, golf courses, Go Ape, The Forest of Dean, Dean Forest steam railway. At an hour's drive you can access Cardiff, The Brecon Beacon mountains, The Big Pit coal mining museum, and several wonderful beaches. A car is pretty much essential, although we are close to a bus stop serving Monmouth and Chepstow. We welcome dogs, for which we have a £25 dog surcharge.
