Towering Gums Two

You are tucked in a sheltered forest, surrounded by towering gum trees and ferns, on the slopes above a fertile valley, with the River Leven meandering through the plain. Beef and dairy cattle, pigs, goats and potatoes are farmed in this valley. A few minutes walk takes you to two sets of falls cascading down Preston Creek. Your accommodation is newly built as a guesthouse and your upper storey apartment gives lovely views of the bush. Cradle Mountain is a 75 minute drive. North-west Tasmania was the last region to be settled by the colonialists and is primarily agricultural with fertile basalt soil and good rainfall. The Dial Range extends from our property to the coast so much native forest remains intact. We live on a farm five km away and you are welcome to sit by our dam hoping for a platypus to appear or simply watching the ducks. If you are comfortable walking on a farm, remembering there may be bulls, snakes and electric fences, then we can direct you to the river for a dip in hot weather. There is another home on the property 40 metres away. The house in which you will stay has the upper floor available as either a three bedroom and 2 bathroom unit, or as two separate units, one with two bedrooms, and a one bedroom unit, each fully-contained with their own kitchen, laundry and balcony. Towering Gums Two refers to the two bedroom apartment. The living area of Towering Gums Two also has a sofa which folds out as a double bed. If this is to be used please let us know in advance so we can arrange bedding. Please note there are 18 steps up to reach the apartment. Both apartments have a balcony on the same face of the building and there is no visual screening between the two decks. There is sound-proofing between the two apartments. An entry lobby, with laundry behind doors, leads to the staircase, at the top of which is a large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with cathedral ceiling and huge windows. A north-facing deck opens off this area and a comfortable window seat is adjacent to the kitchen. There is a study/IT nook. Two bedrooms, a toilet and bathroom face to the south. We live five km away on a farm and are happy to be contacted for advice. Delaney and Preston Falls are 500 metres up our road. Gunns Plains Caves and Wings Wildlife Park are 5 km away. Our farm is nearby and if you are comfortable walking across paddocks and negotiating gates and electric fences then you are welcome to walk along the River Leven and watch for platypuses in our farm dam. In summer if it is hot you may like a swim. Further upstream our river flows through a spectacular canyon which can be viewed from above after a 20 km drive. Short and long walks can take you to the top or bottom of the canyon. Ulverstone is our nearest town and has lovely beaches and a surf-lifesaving club if you would like to swim between the flags. The coastal drive from Ulverstone to Penguin is very pretty. There is no public transport in this area. The nearest store is 15 km away at South Riana and the nearest supermarkets are at Ulverstone which is 20 km. Telstra mobile service is available but not other carriers, so if you are relying on mobile GPS to reach us and do not have a Telstra connection you may be wise to note the route before leaving Ulverstone. Adjacent to your unit is another unit, with a separate entrance. The walls are sound-proofed, however there is a deck off this unit without visual screening from the deck off your unit. In our rural area internet can be accessed with a Smart device only if your carrier uses the Telstra network. In your accommodation wifi is also available via NBN satellite. Unfortunately this restricts the amount of data which can be uploaded or downloaded. If we exceed our allocation we can not buy more data and are only then able to access via dial-up till a new payment period begins. Hence, we ask you to limit use of video downloads.
