Little Bay Eco House - Kaka Cottage overlooking the ocean and up in the trees

Welcome to our contemporary eco-retreat overlooking stunning Little Bay. Powered by sunshine and rainwater, we are nestled on 10 hectares of protected native bush with views across to Aotea - Great Barrier Island. We've had lots of lovely reviews since opening our home for guests and consistently rated 5/5, but have recently transferred our listing so the original reviews are no longer available. No TV and that's a bonus!" Jan 2021 Best Eco Friendly Bronze Award in 2015 - we are solar powered (electricity and hotwater), collect rainwater and treat our wastes through a worm based system. A fully off-grid experience! We have no WiFi- but Vodafone connection is excellent for hotspot internet and phone coverage. Spark is patchy. There is no TV, but a TV screen and HDMI cable is provided so if you bring your own laptop you could connect to watch DVD's or ondemand/streaming services. Most families enjoy the time to disconnect, play board games, swim at the beaches, collect tuatua, explore the area, or read books. From the two double bedrooms you can lie in bed and watch the morning light over the water and the ever changing skies. Hear the tuis, kereru, bellbirds in the bush, and the kaka on their flight to Mt Moehau each morning and evening. At night you will hear moreporks and sometimes kiwi calling in the surrounding bush. The house is north facing with 180degree views over the valley and ocean, not another house in sight.. We are 1.5 km from Little Bay and 2 km from Waikawau beach, both beautiful sandy beaches. Ideally placed for a day trip to the scenic Coromandel Walkway between Stony Bay and Fletcher Bay and for exploring the Northern Coromandel and Colville. Please note, there are no nearby shops. Petrol and provisions can be found at Colville General Store, 20 mins drive away, or in Coromandel Town, 45 mins drive away. The kitchen pantry is well stocked and freely available, but please be aware it is best to come prepared with food and treats! Towels and Sheets: To save water, we have changed our linen policy. Please bring your own towels and sheets and take home to wash. We will provide pillowcases, mattress protectors, duvets, tea towels and bathmats. If this is a problem, please let us know. Notes: There is a 10% discount for bookings of 7 nights or more. In January there is a 5 night minimum stay. A cleaning fee is required but guests are asked to leave the house tidy on departure. If you are booking for 6 adults, please be aware that you will need to be mindful of water and hotwater usage - we are dependent on the sun for hotwater, if the weather is cloudy there may be shortages even though we have a wetback on the fire.
