Welcome to our home a lovely Victorian Vicarage with spectacular countryside views & just 2 minutes walk into town. The second floor (2 staircases to climb) Family Room is one of our 3 individually styled bedrooms with Arts & Crafts furniture & 1 separate shared bathroom. Bentham is great for site seeing as it is central to the Forest of Bowland, Yorkshire Dales & the Lakes. Our home is a characterful, late Victorian house situated in the small town of High Bentham North Yorkshire. This is our family home and we welcome you here to stay for a night or two. You have chosen the Family Room which is located on the second floor. It is a spacious, warm, bright room with 1 double bed, 2 single beds, a small chest of drawers for clothes, and tea and coffee making facilities and views over to the church and Mewith fells. There is a large separate bathroom with a shower, bath, sink, and toilet, this is shared with the other two rooms, but if they are not occupied then it's all yours. Please note we are still renovating parts of the house and will also be having the driveway re surfaced later this year and the gateway widened - it is tight so please take care when driving in. We are happy to let guests use the dining room for tea and coffee making and bringing back a takeaway if desired. You are also free to sit out in the garden. Off road parking is available. Please ask about checking in times. Both Shaun and I are very open and friendly and happy to give advice on local amenities, walks, local activities and attractions. We love meeting new people and sharing their stories and experiences. The town has a thriving community with a good range of amenities including four pubs (three serve food), a café and an Indian restaurant and two takeaways. The town also puts on a regular programme of events such as the Carnival, a Beer Festival and Bonfire and Fireworks Display. Of course if you wanted to explore further afield there is also the famous Wray Scarecrow festival and Ingleton’s 1940’s Weekend, Folk Festival and for cycling enthusiasts Escape to the Dales - Cycle Sportive. You will never be short of things to do. For people who like the great outdoors there are plenty of walks in and around Bentham and it is ideally situated for the Three Peaks walk of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-Y-Ghent. For cyclists Bentham boasts both the Lancashire Cycleway and the Way of the Roses routes. Other attractions included White Scar and Clapham Caves, Ribblehead Viaduct, Ingleton Waterfalls and the Big Stone. We are also situated on the edge of the Sustran cycling route Morecambe to Bridlington (beautiful 2.5 day trip). If you want to get out and about then you couldn’t be better positioned. Bentham is a gateway to the Forest of Bowland, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and a short drive to the City of Lancaster and the west coast at Morecambe Bay. The train station provides links to Lancaster and Leeds and at Settle you can pick up the Carlisle train. The local road link to the A65 (Leeds to the M6) will give you access to Ingleton, Kirkby Lonsdale, Settle and Skipton. For air travel we are about an hour and half away from Leeds Bradford Airport and Manchester Airport. This is our family home, we are not perfect, and as such we are sometimes a bit messy and untidy. We are also still updating parts of the house, and parts of the outside but this would not affect your stay. We are not a hotel, and as long as you are happy with this we will we happy to welcome you. Built in 1897 St Margaret’s Vicarage is a superb detached family home situated in the small town of High Bentham in North Yorkshire. It is located within easy walking distance of the town centre, yet enjoys spectacular countryside views out towards the Church and the rolling Mewith Hills. Originally called Mayfield, it was commissioned by Anne Wilcock as a family home. In 1925 it was sold to the Diocese of Bradford and used as a Vicarage until around 2007 when it was put up for sale. Unfortunately standing empty for several years, then being rented out, took its toll on the Vicarage and this once beautiful house fell into a dilapidated state until it was bought by the present owners, Jane and Shaun, in 2013. By then it was in need of a complete renovation and over the past 8 years we have worked hard to bring the Vicarage back to life, sympathetically updating, whilst trying to preserve as many of the original features as possible. The late Victorian Gothic Deco style is reflected throughout maintaining the period feel of the property but not detracting from modern day comfort and use. The Vintage Vicarage has three beautiful and individually styled bedrooms.
