La Licorne, a small château (300m2) in Dordogne
A small château with enchanted garden. Have you ever dreamed of living in the times of Richard the Lionheart and Eleanor of Aquitaine? Come live your dream with a stay at this small medieval chateau. Like its namesake Unicorn, this magical property is one-of-a-kind. Beautifully restored by local artisans with luxury and comfort in mind, La Licorne awaits your visit. Built into a hill and surrounded by beautiful landscaping, La Licorne offers romantic views of the Dordogne river valley landscape. The 15th century manoir and its 11th century tower delight in the fusion of medieval and renaissance character. The property of 2.5 hectares, much of it wooded and crisscrossed by tourist trails, includes an enchanted garden with a Koi pond, fruit and nut trees, an original roman spring, and a babbling brook. It is easy to imagine unicorns, fairies, and elves hiding around every magical corner. The light-filled chateau derives much of its interior warmth and beauty from exposed limestone walls typical of the region. Large stone fireplaces are a centerpiece in almost every room, and are complemented by high, oak-beamed ceilings and oak and ceramic-tiled floors. Antique furnishings, tapestries, and oriental rugs give the large living areas a cozy, historic feel. There is a massive great room for relaxing and enjoying communal meals, a large library, a contemplative breakfast room, and 4 bedrooms. There are three bathrooms, two separate WCs, a well-equipped kitchen, and front and back terraces with tables for enjoying meals al fresco. A stay at La Licorne makes for an idyllic get-away: a romantic chateau with its own history, a wonderful location that offers a wide range of attractions and activities within a few kilometers, a lovely climate, and not least the famous local cuisine. Additional services on request. - delivery of food purchases - delivery of flowers and gifts - advice and reservation service of restaurants and entries - beauty-service: manicure, massage, hairdresser .... Canoeing (2km), swimming in the Dordogne (0.5km—walk to your own secluded beach), 2 golf courses (3km), a small sports airport (10km), and climbing, hiking and cycling right outside your front door. The Dordogne region is renowned for its excellent cuisine, which includes truffles and cèpes (which you can hunt yourself on the grounds of La Licorne), fois gras and all things duck and goose, walnuts, hazelnuts, figs, prunes, strawberries, and regional wines and distilled specialties. La Licorne sits in the heart of medieval Périgord in what is known as the valley of 1000 castles, a little over 2 hours drive from Bordeaux. The Property is a short walk from the banks of one of Europe’s cleanest rivers, the Dordogne, which used to lap at its foundations before centuries of floods and meandering moved the river 500m away. It is a short drive or bike ride from many from historical towns and castles such Beynac, Sarlat, and Milandes. This is also the prehistoric center of the European continent, with more than 200 prehistoric caves and archaeological sites within 20 km – including Lascaux, les Combarelles, Font de Gaume, Rouffignac and Village Troglodytique de la Madeleine – some of which are reachable via hiking trails that run through the Licorne property.
