Chichester Romantic cottage
Quintessential English country cottage filled with natural light. Cosy wood burning open fire, off-street parking, beautiful gardens. 2 miles from the famous sand dunes of West Wittering. Ideal for Chichester Festival Theatre & Goodwood Events. Please note the cottage is our home, and has been shared with our two cats. They do not currently reside there and the house is professionally deep cleaned before each guest arrives, but we wanted to flag for those with allergies. Ivy Cottage dates back to the late 1700s, but we have renovated in recent years to blend romantic period style with contemporary creature comforts and our eclectic collection of artworks. Once the home of celebrated stars of stage & screen Michael Wilding and Margaret Leighton, as artisans ourselves we've retained and revel in its unique, quirky character. Guests have access to the whole house and gardens (with the exception of a ground floor studio room/study). Upstairs there are 3 lovely bedrooms - 2 doubles, 1 single with French campaign bed, and two bathrooms, one with electric shower. Downstairs: entrance hall, light bright sitting room with open fireplace, well equipped kitchen, separate dining room, guest cloakroom, and large utility with Miele washing machine + tumble drier. Guests are welcome to use the DVDs, books, board games and table tennis provided. Please remember this is our home, we love it, we hope you do too, and that you will treat it with tender loving care. Email / contact number provided. Happy to chat and make recommendations. Arrivals & departures managed by hosts or representative Almodington is a small hamlet surrounded by farmland, south of the cathedral city of Chichester and 2 miles from the beaches of Bracklesham & East/West Wittering. Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival, and the Roman Palace at Fishbourne are all a short hop. The Birdham store is handy for supplies / newspapers etc, but East Wittering is the spot for more extensive shopping: cafes, restaurants, groovy surf shops, butcher, baker, grocer and classic fish & chips. We recommend: Samphire (restaurant) The Drift In (for fresh juices / great sarnies) and Billy's On the Beach in Bracklesham for classic Fish & Chips + There is no direct public transport to Almodington so own transportation recommended. For those visiting the area by train, the nearest railway station is Chichester. There is a taxi rank at the station, and it's a £12 / £15 fare to the property (Station Taxis). The rubbish & recycling bins are to be found outside double gates of drive. These are collected alternate weeks, on Monday mornings. Please ensure all your rubbish/recycling is put in the appropriate bins before departure. There is rosemary, thyme, wild chives and mint growing in abundance, so for those of you who enjoy cooking as much as we do, please feel free to snip some sprigs.
