The Garden Room at Middle Farm Cottage
We have a choice of 3 bedrooms at Middle Farm Cottage. The Garden Room on the ground floor can be configured as a super-king or a twin, has its own TV, coffee/tea making, private wet room and door out into the garden. Pets are welcome in the Garden Room. Upstairs are two further double rooms - the Blue Room and the Rose Room, either side of a shared bathroom. These two make an ideal 'suite' for a family, or for friends travelling together. Please see www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/ (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Ours is a traditional village B&B offering peaceful nights and superb breakfasts. Dinder is a beautiful farming village, just off the main Wells to Shepton Mallet road. Through traffic is minimal - horses being walked to their paddock, the occasional tractor, and the hourly bus in to Wells. Nightlife? Well, there is a resident owl in the field opposite... During the Covid-19 pandemic we are, of course, being very thorough in our sanitising of bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas, and social distancing. Breakfast is served in our cosy dining room, or in summer in our newly modernised kitchen-diner which opens onto the garden. We can offer continental or a full cooked breakfast. Fruit compote, bread, jams and marmalade are all home-made. Or you can just relax with a book and a cup of coffee. We live at Middle Farm Cottage, so will be available to help at all times. This is great walking country and we can also recommend a number of local pubs for that essential refreshment! The closest is a 15' walk (5' drive) away and does excellent evening meals. There are also many good restaurants in Wells. Dinder is tucked at the foot of the Mendip Hills, and offers excellent walks into Wells either along the valley of the River Sheppey or over the hills. Wells is a gem, the smallest cathedral city in England, and boasts the stunning Cathedral, Vicars' Close (the oldest inhabited street in Europe) and the Bishop's Palace. Don't miss the market, every Wednesday and Saturday, when the Square really comes to life! Parking on the street directly outside our cottage is easy, and there is an hourly bus to and from Wells. Alternatively, you can walk into Wells (we can lend you wellies), past WW2 defences that were never removed, across the fields and through King's Castle Wood. Enjoy refreshments at any of a dozen pubs, and then take the bus back to Dinder. Further afield, Wookey Hole Caves are just the other side of Wells, Cheddar Gorge and Caves further along the Mendips, Bath and Bristol are 30' drive away, and there is outlet shopping to be had at Clarks Village in Street, or Kilver Court and Mulberry both in Shepton Mallet. In November (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Simon Jenkins, writing in the Guardian, elected Wells Cathedral as the finest of all the English cathedrals. “Its sculpted west front glows incomparably in the sunset, its giant scissor arches uplift its crossing, and its column capitals offer an encyclopaedia of medieval life. Wells also boasts the most serene chapter house anywhere.” (Website hidden by Airbnb) And a month later, subscribers to Which? voted Wells as The Best UK City Break. “Plum on the central green perches Wells Cathedral, an epic endeavour of ecclesiastical architecture raised as England’s first Gothic cathedral between (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Alongside runs Vicar’s Close, one of the only intact residential medieval streets left in Britain, with moated Bishop’s Palace close by. All that adds up to the full five stars for Wells’ cultural attractions. Better still, it’s walkable: England’s smallest city has a historic core that’s hardly a mile wide.” (Website hidden by Airbnb) So, what are you waiting for?!
