Near Edge Hut Branthwaite Nr Cockermouth
If you are looking to get away from it all, and enjoy some amazing views and peace and quiet, then look no further. Set in its own little corner on our 300 acre farm, the hut enjoys spectacular views from the sun rising over the fells to it setting in the Solway coast. The lack of light pollution makes it an excellent place for stargazing. Don’t let the colder months put you off, with warm fleecy bedding, and log burner, you’ll be super cosy The hut is very simplistic; think olden days (with a present day twist). It has a comfy double bed, a table and stools for meals looking out at the fells, and a lovely wood burner for those chilly, winter evenings. A short walk across the field will bring you to our newly renovated shower block. Aptly named “The Wash House”, in olden days it was used as a place to wash the milk and butter churns, and do the laundry. Today it has toasty under floor heating, a nice hot electric shower and changing area, a sink and a washing machine, and drying racks for those waterproofs to dry out on overnight. An iron, ironing board and hair dryer are provided to get ready for a good night out in the local towns, or pubs and restaurants . Towels are provided in the Wash House, or you may wish to bring your own. They are there should you need one. There is also a separate door leading into the toilet, with an additional sink. An outside tap allows you to wash off muddy gear before hanging it to dry. The hut sits in its own little fenced off area, mains water tap, and fire basket. Perfect for sunset dining, or roasting marshmallows under the stars. This fenced off area allows guests with dogs to be able to take them off of a lead to get some run around time. This is of course, I’d you deem safe to do so. Going inside the hut, you will find it cosy and well equipped with everything you should need during your stay. There's a camping stove, pans, plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, all important corkscrew and bedding is provided. There are lights and a charging station for phones and ipads (must be USB chargers) which are run by the solar panel. In case of rainy nights, there is a camping toilet under the bed for convenience. Just bring your clothes and food (and wellies!) The hut has its own fenced off area in our field. Guests have walking access through the field to and from the farm yard and shower/toilet block. Parking available in the farm yard. I like to be here to meet and greet you and show you around, but will then leave you in peace to enjoy your time away. Although, there are some occasions where I may not be around on arrival. Our newly set up check in guide allows flexibility for guests to arrive on their own, without my need to be there upon their arrival. However, I am always on hand via text, or usually around the farm if you need anything at all. Situated on the outskirts of the quiet, picturesque, farming village of Branthwaite. Ideally located for exploring the coast and the lakes, and within a 30 minute drive radius are the towns of Whitehaven, Workington, Maryport, Cockermouth and Keswick, lakes, fells, forests and the beach! The Wild Duck pub is a 20 minute stroll away from the hut (or a two minute drive) or the equally lovely Royal Yew pub in Dean is just over a mile away. You will need transport if you want to go further than the village. Everything is a short drive away. Unfortunately due to the size of Branthwaite, we have no public transport available. There are taxi services, but I cannot guarantee the price of travel as it differs between companies. When you arrive into the farm yard there will be a short walk up some uneven steps, across the fields (about 200meters) to get to the Hut. Due to the walk and the location of the hut, we do provide torches but it may also be recommended that you bring one for your stay. Winter nights can cut in quicker than expected ! Whilst the log burner keeps the hut nice and toasty, I do recommend slippers as the wooden floor can get cold. In the corner of the paddock there is a mains water tap for your drinking/washing up water Instructions for the cooking stove are in the box or in the “Adventure guest Book” in the hut. If there is livestock in the field, we ask that you remain calm with them and they will just go about their day doing whatever they do. We wouldn’t put our guests at risks with animals we would deem as dangerous. Sheep and young calves are docile creatures, they usually are just inquisitive and like to say hi!
