My place is close to to everything! - 20 minutes walk from the centre of Durham, and the University; 30 mins to walk to the train station; 5 minutes from a decent pub with food; a few minutes from a bus stop; and a taxi should be less than a tenner from the centre! It is a quiet neighbourhood with a really comfy double bed! You also have exclusive use of a bathroom - and plenty of hot water! Couples, singles, and business travellers are all welcome. The bedroom you will be using is lovely and comfortable. The bed is comfortable so that you can get a good nights sleep, and there is a 'black out' blind to make sure it is dark enough. There is a kettle, cups, tea bags, coffee and a bottle of water and glasses for you to use if you want to; and there are small bottles of shampoo/conditioner, body wash, and soap in the room as well. It is a really nice room, comfortable, and very conveniently located. The bedroom is upstairs and there is a bathroom solely for your use upstairs as well. The bathroom has a bath - no shower, but if you really want to have a shower, there is one in the downstairs bathroom that you can use. Just let me know if that is what you are intending to do. There are towels provided for you in your bedroom, as well as extra blankets/duvets/pillows if you need them and the wifi details are on the desk in the bedroom. For short stays, you will just need to use the entrance, the bathroom and the entrance. For longer stays, using the kitchen and other areas of the house will obviously be necessary. I am retired - fairly recently, so I am available for part of most days. I also check my 'phone to look for messages. I love meeting people and I am always interested in what brings you to Durham, so I will be around, but I will also give you space so that you can do 'your own thing'. I have included some information about things to do in Durham - but there are loads of other things, depending on your specific interests, and whether you have your own transport, or will need to be using public transport, that I can talk to you about, if you are interested! The neighbours are very nice, and very helpful. The area is quiet and it is really nice to walk around. There are shortcuts to the university that can be accessed from across the road, though if you are on your own, I would advise you to use a light, (from your phone would be fine), if you are walking back to the house after dark. There is a light near the front door that will stay on, but become brighter when you get close to the door. This will help you to use your key when you get back to the house after it is dark. There is parking available if you need it. I will tell you how to access the drive for parking if you are driving to Durham. I am very close to the centre of Durham so it is easy to walk into Durham from my house. It is quite hilly if you are walking back to the house from the centre, but no problem if you are reasonably fit. There is also a bus stop across the road - if you are heading back to the house from The centre; and there is a bus stop on the same side of the road as the house if you want to get a bus into the centre. It is also easy to get to Durham from Newcastle airport - there is a Metro that takes you from the airport to the central railway station in Newcastle. You can get a train to Durham station from that station. The trains and Metro are pretty frequent during the day, but not so regular early in the morning or late at night. If you get a taxi from the airport, it will cost in the region of £40 to £50, quite expensive. However, a taxi from the train station in Durham to my house should be less than a tenner. There is a cat but the cat stays in the kitchen and the utility. If you are here for a short stay, you will not see the cat, (Mollie), as you probably won't be using the kitchen. There is a cat flap, so she can go in and out as she pleases and her food, drink and litter tray are all in the utility. If I'm not going to be around for any length of time, a friend will come to feed the cat, but I will let you know if that is going to happen.
