Religious architectures: The church of San Giorgio rises on the rock where in 1037 the first medieval nucleus of Chieri was born. It was restored in Baroque period by Bernardo Vittone. The cathedral is the oldest and most important religious building in the city, dating back to the fifth century. The church of San Giorgio, located in a dominant position on top of the homonymous hill, rises on the ruins of an ancient castle of the tenth century. At the beginning of the 12th century a church was built in Gothic style, then destroyed by a fire in 1412. The new church was rebuilt facing the city and is flanked by a pagan bell tower. The actual façade dates back to 1752 and is the work of Bernardo Antonio Vittone. The church of San Domenico dates back to the 14th century and is connected to the nearby Convent. It was initially a Gothic church with three aisles, but in the course of the fourteenth century many patriotic chapels were built at its sides. If you observe the façade you can see how it is not linear and flat but it follows the trend of the ancient walls of protection of the city. The church preserves several ancient treasures, including precious works by Moncalvo, the Resurrection of Lazarus and the Multiplication of Breads, to which the decoration of the choir was entrusted in 1614. There are also works by Spanzotti. Of great interest is the "Madonna of the milk" frescoed on the first left column, representing the nursing of the baby by the Madonna.
