Cosy yurt in picturesque Cotswolds valley
Located in the middle of Laurie Lee’s setting for his renowned book Cider with Rosie, this is a rustic camp tucked away at the very top of a 12-acre smallholding with picturesque views across this lovely Cotswolds valley. Situated in a little meadow of its own is the yurt, not overlooked by anyone. Outside is a basic camp kitchen with awning, table and chairs, fire pit and bbq, a compost loo, wood-fuelled firebath and sun loungers for enjoying the finer days. Our yurt was handmade in the South West using oak and ash, insulated with wool and furnished simply and comfortably using natural materials wherever possible. It is cosily equipped with a double bed, feather and linen bedding, woollen blankets, table and chairs, LED lamps and a log burner for the cooler months. The yurt has a basic outdoor kitchen comprising a 2-ring gas burner with a grill, a sink with running water and all the usual kitchen utensils. Of course we totally encourage visitors to use the fire pit and bbq for cooking beneath the sun and stars as much as possible. For this we provide a Kadai fire bowl set-up with grill, tripod, pots, pans and tongs. A lovely quirk of the camp is the fire bath - a re-purposed tub tucked under the trees and heated by a wood fire. Chemical free and more water-conscious than a standard hot tub. We do provide towels but given the rustic firebath we prefer to provide old mismatched ones (rather than hotel-fluffy!) as they invariably get a bit muddy. Eco hand wash, shampoo//body wash, surface sanitiser and hand sanitiser are provided. Please use these or bring your own but make sure it is biodegradable please. The yurt and camp is being upgraded a little for the 2022 season so do check back for updates! Guests will have sole use of the yurt, outdoor amenities and the surrounding meadow. Every effort is made to leave guests in peace and in the event that we need to carry out farm work near by we'll let guests know in advance. We will generally be on site as we are in the middle of renovating our main house and also have the livestock (chickens and goats at the moment) to look after. We'll let guests know if we plan to be away and will provide an alternative contact in case of emergency. Our location offers the best of both worlds - with stunning views across the Slad Valley and Cotswolds AONB. We see lots of deer, owls, foxes and badgers and the night sky is heavy with stars. On the other hand we are situated about half way between Stroud, where there is an excellent Farmer’s Market every Saturday, and the locally renowned Woolpack Inn - hands down one of the best in the region - each reachable on foot in about 30 mins or less. The yurt is a great jumping off point for exploring myriad walks that take in the Laurie Lee Wildife Walk, the Cotswold Way and plenty of typical pretty little villages - many with decent country pubs. Likewise - this area is very popular with cyclists and we are well situated for some picturesque routes. We can provide parking for one vehicle but once here but we do encourage people to take public transport and walk or cycle wherever possible. Stroud train station is just 25 minutes walk away. Please note that we do not have hot water on tap, or mains electricity - just a small battery pack that we provide for charging small devices by USB.
