A spacious & stylish conversion of a 150 year old school house. Wake up on the mezzanine floor to look down on the original windows and double height living room below. 7 minutes from tube and from there convenient to get into central London stations (Soho, British Museum etc.) in 20 minutes, and Canary Wharf & Tower of London in 10 minutes I chose to live here because the place feels so spacious with the double height ceilings. The apartment has high ceilings with lots of natural light, superb mezzanine bedrooms (one with a double bed and the other with 2) These look down on the double height windows and living room space beneath it (there's blinds for privacy and light blocking). The spacious reception area below has plenty of desk space. It's a unique space with all the character that comes with a 150 year old converted building. Please note that we have redecorated the place and added some lovely new furniture and plants, yet the professional photographers at Airbnb are still not available. As part of this we no longer have a TV just in case that’s important to you. The modern fitted kitchen is well-equipped and guests can help themselves to complimentary cooking essentials (oil, salt, pepper etc) and breakfast along with sugar, tea and coffee. I'm busy attempting to set up a business and when my head comes away from the laptop screen I love welcoming people to London, finding out more about them and sharing a drink at the only private members club that's a charity in England called The House of St Barnabus (if they have the time) Canary Wharf and Docklands is the hidden gem in London. Beautiful historic warehouses, old riverside pubs and impressive new developments enchant the wandering visitor. This is a place to explore and discover. Many historic buildings remain, including The Grapes public house, which was notably bought in 2011 by actor Sir Ian McKellen, director Sean Mathias and Evening Standard (daily newsprint) owner, Evgeny Lebedev. Next to The Grapes is a rare example of an early Georgian brick terrace. Nearby 'Limehouse' is often wrongly thought to be derived from the nickname for British sailors, or 'limeys'. In fact, the name relates to the local lime kilns that served shipping in the London Docks back in the 14th century. A former marshland, the area of Limehouse became a significant port in late medieval times and soon the shipbuilding, rope-making and merchant industries thrived. In 1820 the Limehouse Basin opened as the Regent's Canal Dock, connecting the Thames and the canal system. Limehouse was the site of the first London case of cholera in 1832, while both Charles Dickens and Thomas Burke describe the area's notorious opium dens. The term 'Limehousing' means to make an incendiary political speech, and followed an attack on the House of Lords made by Chancellor David Lloyd George in 1909. Contemporary residents include the actor Sir Ian McKellen and the journalist Matthew Parris, while celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey owns the popular gastropub, The Narrow. In the days of the British Empire, the entire area housed docks and shipyards with two thousand ships loading and unloading their goods. World War II naturally led to a lull in traffic, and the area was levelled by bombing. With huge regeneration in the area in the last thirty years, now there is a wonderful fusion of historics features like the old shipping cranes and modern architecture with modern skyscrapers from the UK’s most revered architects. Canary Wharf makes for a good mix of cultural, shopping, and food venues. Canary Wharf has a huge shopping malls, plenty of bars and restaurants) -10 min. The 50-storey One Canada Square is the tallest building in the UK and the 2nd tallest in Europe, 'Billingsgate Market, 'Jubilee Park & the award winning Gun pub are other near by attractions as well as a huge indoor mall with the latest high-street and designer brands all within very close walking distance. Centrally located, 7 mins walk to Westferry station (3 stops into Bank/Tower Bridge), walking distance to Canary Wharf. Near River Thames. Attractions such as Tower Bridge, St Paul's, Trafalgar Sq all a bus stop away! These are the most convenient (and cheapest) options which we would normally take 1/ City Airport - take the DLR to Westferry station (15mins) 2/ Gatwick Airport - take Gatwick train to London Bridge (30mins).Then take Nothern tube Line to Bank, and change to DLR line to Westferry (10mins). 3/ Heathrow Airport - take the Piccadilly tube line, and change to District Line at Barons Court to Monument/Bank station, and then change to DLR line to Westferry (total journey time 70mins) 4/ Stansted Airport - take either the train (35mins) or coach (55mins) to Liverpool street, and bus 135 from Liverpool street to the apartment (stops rights outside, around 20mins depending on traffic) 5/ Luton Airport - take the train to London Bridge (60mins). Then take Northern tube Line to Bank, and change to DLR line to Westferry (10mins) 6/ If arriving by Eurostar at St Pancras, take the Northern line direct to Bank (8mins) and change to DLR line to Westferry (5 mins) If you would like to book a cab, please get in touch and we would be happy to arrange one for you. Travel times from Westferry DLR: - Central London Zone 1 in 8 min (direct) - Tower of London in 8 Min (direct) - Greenwich in 15 Min (direct) - The Olympic village and Stratford/Westfield shopping - 15 mins - St. Paul's cathedral in 15 mins, the Royal Opera House or Covent Garden in 30 (via Bank or Tower Gateway) and West London museums in about 40 (via Tower Gateway). - Brick Lane /Shoreditch --> 20mins - RIVER BOAT terminal nearby with regular direct boats to central in 10mins – a unique and unforgettable journey into central London! Other connections: - The river boat service - 15 min walk. - Euston Station is within 4.3 miles - London Victoria is within 4.8 miles - London Paddington is within 6.0 miles There is a London Cycle Hire stand close by (very affordable and a great way to get around- you can pick up and drop off at 1000s of locations), and there are also numerous 24hr bus stops nearby. The apartment is so accessible and so very close to all the action. There's much, much more in the area. Just ask and I’d be happy to help out.
