Signa Castello is a charming, quiet, mediaeval town situated in the immediate outskirts of Florence..just 12 km away. The apartment is in a unique, prominent, renovated 17th Century villa. A rooftop terrace offers 360° breath-taking views over the surrounding hills. The local train station, being only a 10 minute walk from the house, makes traveling very convenient, it takes 18 minutes to reach the centre of Florence. We are very proud to receive many compliments for the breakfast we offer . The location is suitable for couples as well as for a family, or for 2 couples, if "The Beamed Bedroom", which is next door to the Renaissance Room" is also reserved. This smaller bedroom, can also be reserved to be used as a totally private living/tv room for the occupants to the Renaissance Room. Breakfast, including freshly ground and brewed coffee together with delicious Italian pastry bought at dawn daily from a renowned local bakery, is served in the dining room area which offers picture postcard views from the surrounding windows. My guests are welcomed to enjoy the main living room area of the house to watch television and in winter, to sit around the log fireplace enjoying a nice glass of wine. I will be present early in the morning and generally in the evening, at night and over the week-end. Signa is the territory of the lake basin of Florence. The area is surrounded by hills with the Arno River splitting the valley into two, on one side Lastra A Signa and Signa on the other. Signa is home to a longstanding craft tradition, that of the Straw Hat, known in Italian as the Cappello di Paglia. The ancient tradition began by an enterprising 18th Century farmer who not knowingly initiated a watershed epoc for the local economy, from where the production of high quality straw hats aroused attention of wealthy clients around the world. Signa's natural landscape is a crucial part of its identity. One of the most popular destination for both residents and visitors is the outdoor Parco Renai, protected by the WWF Italia Onlus. It's an easy to reach family friendly spot for a breath of fresh air and for various outdoor activities. From Florence take the, Firenze Pisa Livorno (FI PI LI) Superstrada and get off at LASTRA A SIGNA. Follow the directions for SIGNA, which is a 5 minute drive away crossing over the Arno River. From the motorway coming from the south or the north, get out at LASTRA A SIGNA and follow directions as above. From the A1 CALENZANO exit and also from the A11 PRATO EST exit, follow the road to the indications for SIGNA. You will cross over numerous roundabouts and one large one, Locality Indicatore, from where we are about 2 kilometres away. If you come by train i'll be happy to pick you up at the local Signa station which is only an 18 minute ride from the Santa Maria Novella Station of Florence. As the house is situated in the historic part of Signa called Castello (Castle), the roads in the immediate area are quite narrow. Parking is available on the streets circulating the house as well as in a limited parking area just infront of the property. Not too far away, if you don't want to go into busy Florence, one can enjoy good food in the numerous restaurants in the area, a special one only a 5 minute walk from the house. For a shopping spree, one can pass many enjoyable hours in the in the lovely GILLI Shopping Mall which is a 10 minute car ride away. The renowned Hidron Wellness Centre is also just a few kilometres away where there is a hairdresser as well as a large swimming pool and a restaurant.
