Delightful barn conversion on a 25-acre farm on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds, yet only 4.5 miles from central Cheltenham. Sleeps 4 across a king-size double and a twin bedroom with family shower room and downstairs WC. Beautifully appointed living-dining room features a woodburning stove, original exposed beams and a spacious dining area to comfortably seat four guests. Private garden, patio and BBQ. Accepts 2 well-behaved dogs for an additional fee,* has 2 horse stables and parking. ** The pet fee is NOT included in your booking fee. A request for an additional fee per pet will be sent to you after you have placed your booking. Your pet fee must be paid for before your arrival date. Please note that additional guests above the maximum capacity are not permitted to stay overnight. Originally, The Granary was a yellow-brick barn used to house grain. Today, it is a beautifully renovated and restored holiday let at the centre of the owners’ farm on the outskirts of Cheltenham, close to the village of Shurdington. To either side of the property is a wicker fence surrounding the private patio and courtyard. The Granary is accessed via Sandy Pluck Lane, a half-mile long, country track, passing open land and neighbouring houses and farms. You will find yourself surrounded by farmland and open country with easy access to walks and beautiful scenery. Guests drive into an immaculately kept courtyard, with the owners’ property to one side, The Granary ahead and its parking area to the right. Behind a tall wicker fence is a private garden with a patio, seating and BBQ. Downstairs, The Granary has a fully equipped kitchen with a separate utility/cloakroom and a large dining-living room, featuring the original beams and fabulous wood burning stove, with a door leading out to the patio and garden. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one furnished with a king-size bed and the other with two 3ft single beds. The two bedrooms share a shower room with a large walk-in shower, toilet and washbasin. Guests have full, private access to the whole house, garden and patio. Guests have use of the immaculate courtyard for parking and for cleaning dogs off using a warm-water tap. Up to 2 large stables can be hired at an additional cost of £50 per stable. Neither bedding nor feed is provided but there's a lockable area for both, and for all tack. Hacking out from The Granary involves rather too much road-work but parking for a lorry or trailer is available giving you ready access to the glories of Cotswold riding. Payment for the stable(s) must be made direct to the owner on arrival as cash or bank transfer. You should leave the stables as you found them. A barrow and tools are available, and a muck heap is close by. Owner meets guests (socially distanced) on arrival. Owner lives across the courtyard and is on hand for any questions or guidance if needed. The Granary is just 4.5 miles from Regency Cheltenham, with its wide choice of restaurants, bars and cafes, independent and household brand name shopping, the Everyman Theatre and world-famous jazz, literary, music and science festivals. The celebrated Gold Cup Cheltenham Racecourse is just 6 miles away. (See Cheltenham Guidebook below for more details about Cheltenham.) The nearest shop selling basic items is Shurdington Post Office (1.6 miles) at GL51 4SJ. The nearest small supermarket is a Cooperative food store in Brockworth, 2 miles away. If you would like to buy fresh, homegrown produce, head to Primrose Farm Shop and Pick Your Own, 1 mile away, along the A46 towards the A417. Gloucester Business Park is 3.5 miles away, where guests will find a Tesco Superstore and petrol station, Costa Coffee, Subway, Greggs and a David Lloyd Racket & Health Club. The Shell petrol station on the A46 roundabout, towards Painswick, is 1.7 miles away and sells everyday basics. The Granary is within easy driving distance of Painswick (9.5 miles), Sudeley Castle/Winchcombe (12 miles), Stroud (12 miles), Cirencester (14 miles), Bourton-on-the-Water (19 miles), Bibury (20 miles), Stow-on-the-Wold (22 miles) and Burford (25 miles). Walking The Granary is right at the heart of the Cotswold Way, the national walking route that offers just over 100 miles of magical walking, with long distance views from the Cotswold escarpment and journeys through picturesque villages and famous ancient sites. For other great walking routes, visit cotswoldsaonb org uk - it is the best source of local information and you can download maps (walking and cycling) for free. The owners also like the clarity and accuracy of the R R Gordon walks, which you can print off or download. Cycling FlyUp417 Bike Park is 2 miles from The Granary and is a haven for ultra-keen and pro mountain bikers. This 100-acre bike park just outside the centre of Gloucester is the biggest privately owned mountain bike facility in England. It features downhill trails, an indoor pumptrack, a dirt jump barn and field, as well as the unique ‘uplift’ feature, with transport for you and your bike back to the top of the hill after a descent. If you can’t bring your own bike, bikes are available for hire. Indoor storage for bikes can be provided at The Granary. Skiing & Snowboarding The Gloucester Ski & Snowboard Centre is 7 miles from the Granary. There is a 255-metre main slope, a freestyle slope with Snowflex Fun Park (and features on selected nights), a 40-metre nursery slope, a dedicated tubing slop, button tow ski lifts, a big air bag – for practising freestyle manoeuvres, a fully licensed café/bar with food and ski and snowboard hire. Horse Riding Up to 2 large stables can be hired at an additional cost of £50 per stable. Neither bedding nor feed are provided but there's a lockable area for both, and for all tack. Local Pubs Serving Good Food • Bathhurst Arms, North Cerney • Green Dragon, Cockleford • Gloucester Old Spot, Piffs Elm • The House in the Tree, Boddington • The Colesbourne Inn, Colesbourne • Butchers Arms, Sheepscombe • The Black Horse, Cranham • Foston’s Ash Inn, The Camp The Granary is ideally located to explore the Central, South and North Cotswolds by car, with easy access to all the major routes and places of interest, including Cheltenham Racecourse (6 miles), Sudeley Castle/Winchcombe (12 miles), Cirencester (14 miles), Bourton-on-the-Water (19 miles), Bibury (20 miles), Stow-on-the-Wold (22 miles) and Burford (25 miles). If you prefer to arrive by train and explore the area on foot or by bike, Cheltenham Spa or Gloucester train stations are just 5 miles from the property. In addition, up to two large stables can be hired, giving guests the opportunity to bring their own horses and explore the beautiful Cotswolds on horseback. (See ‘Local Amenities & Attractions’ below for details.) The Granary is at the end of a long rural lane, on a working farm, though set aside from farm activity. Guests are welcome to explore the farm and meet the owners’ horses and sheep, but please avoid the mown area around the lake which is the owners’ garden. Please note that additional guests above the maximum capacity are not permitted to stay overnight. The Granary (and the owner’s property) is on a septic tank, so PLEASE, only toilet paper down the loos. Anything else will cause a blockage which is very expensive to fix and very inconvenient for all. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome, an additional fee per pet applies. The pet fee is NOT included in your booking fee. A request for an additional fee per pet will be sent to you after you have placed your booking. Your pet fee must be paid for before your arrival date.
